Unit textures basics, need help
« on: 14-09-2009, 17:09:39 »
Hi guys i need someone to tell me what is the quickest and easiest way to make custom skins for FH 2.2 player models?? I want to prepare Polish units of 1 Armored Division to be included in 1 or 2 custom (or even official) maps for Poles in Normandy.Basicly i just want to change Canadian player skins since they used the same uniforms and weapons.Maybe I'll do the same with british skins to use it for Italian maps or some maps in North Africa.I need to know how :) then it's my battle to do it.Tnx for help in advance.

I'd try to get my hands on the original PSD files, otherwise I have no idea how to get them out of the editor/game files.

using photoshop is piece a cake, how can I get texture files from a game? what extractor do I need? I don't see any "texture" folder or file in FH2 direcotry.

I will give you an example using US Airborne skin

Before you begin you must have the Nvidia .dds tools plugin
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/dds_utilities_legacy.html

Go to objects_client.zip
open soldiers
open UW
open textures
Inside you have a bunch of .dds
Anything with _c is the part you "color" on, anything with _b is your bmp map[which generates depth of the model so don't screw with it] anything with _os is a normal map [which generates depth a different way so don't screw with it]

Remember to not over write your files as playing with it on a server with PB could treat it as hacks.

Slightly off-topic, but if you're working on the Poles then that's great as I heard they played a huge role in the Italian campaign. IIRC they took the monastery at Monte Cassino for example.

Like kildar said. They should look like so v. Though soldier skins are a little on the scary side to open.
