MiG-29 is the most beautiful incarnation of Russian 4th generation fighters. Unlike the overrated Su-27, which looks better, the MiG-29 is more agile, nimble, and better dogfighter. It has huge oversized engine with the body of sleek Russian aerodynamics (engines at the bottom of planeform), yet the whole package is small enough just to look very graceful.
The only downside is the range. The plane was build around its fuel tank, so, it has no other space than the back of the cockpit. The wing is so critical and thin, it cannot hold fuel inside it, and hardpoints are maxed at 3 each. Avionics suit is very limited that in the latest incarnation of it (MiG-35) has to add spaces by making a big hump on its back to stuff in more equipments. Then there is the smoky Klimov RD-33 (and even in its K version), not a good thing in a dogfight. But that is also the gem of this plane. This is basically a Lotus Elise with old fashioned GM LS engine... a light weight torquey hot rod with agility.
