Not something you should be encouraging if he has started with The Philosopher's Stone.

Yeah that ruined Emma Watson for me. Can't find someone sexy if you first saw them as a child...  ;D

On a completely different subject though, what do you guys think is a good casual way to improve your foreign language vocabulary on a day-to-day basis without an enrollment into a school program? Say...german ;D

Eh, I learned a lot of German words like Grenade, Alarm, No, Yes, Incoming, Armor etc. by playing games.

Best way is watching/listening to TV or radio broadcasts in the language you want to learn (watching films, TV series, etc.). You can even do this as a kind of background "noise". This requires some knowledge of the language though. Also there are lots of mobile phone apps out there, where you can just learn some vocabulary on a daily basis in every situation (e.g. on bus or trains). Although learning languages always takes time. Be patient.

I see we're in a similar situation :D. Pretty much what Oberst said plus you can switch up the language in games to German, you can also try and learn, say 5 words a day, it's not much, but if done everyday it should get you going forward without too much effort (That's whats this about right? not having to work too much? :D).

If you want, I can give you a playlist of good German music. You can then google the lyrics and translation.

I could speak English before I learned it in school. One reason was the omnipresence of English music. On the other hand my older brother never bought us the german version of a game because those are altered for pussies (no blood etc.). A positive side-effect was that I learned English quite fast.

Also you shouldn´t have too many problems with German if you speak English and Latin. A big chunk of german vocabulary is just that (Konstruktion, Motivation, resignieren, diskutieren) or altered (lat.: scribere turns into schreiben).

I'm currently trying to read Die Welt everyday to improve my German and i try to watch a few German documentaries or movies a week over youtube. Only downside is that Die Welt makes it that you can only read 20 articles per month without paying. Using ingocgnito mode on your browser can help you around it though.

Just watch movies and series that are German with German subtitles if you know the basics. Das Leben der Anderen is a good start, great movie.

The girl I like has a male roommate now. She already called him her "Best roommate ever". Even worse, the guy is a musician. She´s pretty, intelligent and very friendly, so why shouldn´t he try to make a move?

The last time I saw her, she smiled at me. But that was right before an important exam. I was so busy with that, that only later I realized how she had smiled. Even today I can hardly interpret that smile. That was quite a while ago. I didn´t meet her after that, because of my foreign semester directly after that and her having other courses.

But I´m probably going to see her this week on a party. I´ll definitely talk to her again. The question is shall I keep it slow and only indicate my intentions or should I go directly for it and tell her. Both things have a hook though. Telling her, might seem weird considering we didn´t see each other in months. If I keep it slow, the other one might be faster.

Am I interpreting too much into this roommate stuff?

Oh, and sorry for the soul strip. ^^

Reading Commando Comics does the same thing for me. They are my crack.

I fucking love that movie. I highly recommend 'Der Tunnel' as well. Solid German film.

Make a move on her: i.e. kiss. Or ask her out on a date. Make your intentions clear and known. Youll know soon enough if shes into you or not.
If you two havnt done any of that stuff it has no use telling her about how you feel, will only creep her out. Take the dating route for making true feelins known.
