A scrap book of tips and tactics
« on: 09-10-2010, 08:10:57 »
This thread is for people looking for help on FH2. The idead I have is that everyone posts a tip/ tactic they know and then as more and more people post we get a lerge scrapbook of help for the newer players and maybe older more establisher players too.
I will start it off.
Stick to hedgerows, don't chare across open fields. You will get shot

"Guide to sneaking"

A guide for FHT By P.Bouras

This is a small guide i put together through my experience in sneaking and solo attacks on the enemy flags. If you follow some of those simple rules you will become a true sneaker able for the hardest of jobs.First of all id like to start by saying that
Sneaking is all about the right moment, being Totally silent and observation of the environment. The easiest way to sneak is take the longest way possible or try to imagine the way the enemy wont use.Now if you see enemy but he doesn't see you duck and cover so he just gets away. When stationary ALWAYS check your back for knife-rs.Be always aware of  your surroundings and the nearest possible cover. As you know running attracts attention whereas crawling does not.Don't be afraid battle is 1 hour long it doesn't matter if you crawl 3 minutes.

First lets start with the easiest of things.Kit.Always use a kit with a rifle and binoculars and smoke(does this sound a hell lot like spotter?) Its the essentials to your survival. If you find scoped rifles DONT take them as you will not engage from long distance. So spotter is a must

Explaining the 3 needs of sneaking:

Right moment.

This is all about luck.Sneaking is pretty much being lucky.I can tell you that first hand.
If you are lucky there wont be anyone. If you are not there might be ten enemies waiting at the flag. You have to wait for the right moment to move as it can save your life and most importantly not compromise your cover. Now the right moment is based on common sense and observation.Try to guess the next move of the soldiers.Go from a point they would never look at.Even if you are a new player after a few battles you will be able to understand the moves of the enemy. Also using an allied attack to your gain is also good.Their massacre will be avenged by capping the flag.

Being Silent

That is an obvious trait for the good sneaker and the most important.Simply because more sound=more attention by the enemy.Avoid shooting is a must.More importantly avoid bayoneting. If you shoot they will find out were you are and if you bayonet well...You are history. He will simply report his position and you are dead. Also you should try crawling or moving when there is a lot of sound or a mortar bombardment.Try to cover your sounds or don't make them in the first place.

Observation

Alright this is obvious. You never go somewhere like a headless chicken.Watch before moving in to your goal.Binoculars are your friend.See the scouts/spotters/guards and avoid them.Observe for cover, destroyed buildings, havoc and anything that could get you in the flagzone without anyone noticing you.Remember you do not exist. You are a ghost that none has seen or will see.ALSO keep in mind your arch enemy is MINES!Be careful around possible dead zones and narrow corridors. If you crash on a mine try to avoid this place the next time around.

Tricks:

A small trick i use is throw smoke on lets say west and move in from north/east . Try to fool them. Then get in the flag zone and dont shoot unless seen.

Get a second from your squad to attack from the other side throwing smoke and making noise. This will surely get you in.

Keep away from the roads that are often used when sneaking. Use smoke when you need a quick escape. If you can, you make the team benefit by destroying the german arty in bessin.(:| HI)

Reconnaissance. A good reconnaissance is more worth than the best fighter.Sometimes your binoculars can be the deadliest weapon of all.

"Attacking an objective"
A guide for FHT by P.Bouras

This is the basis of the gameplay.Without proper attacks nothing can work in any map.Attacking an objective as infantry has three phases :

A)Get to your target Safely
B)Get in the Flagzone without attracting too much attention
c)1)Defending the flag after a succesfull attack or 2)Retrying the attack

Attacking also has other types which require no explanation though. The following are most of them:

1)Infantry only;Lightest assault possible and the weakest although attracts least attention and its the most common
2)Infantry with light vehicle support;a nice mix of mobility and firepower although does not excel against heavy defense
3)Infantry with heavy vehicle support;A really nice mix of great firepower but lacks mobility
4)Light vehicles only;suicide unless its only to harass the enemy
5)Heavy vehicles only; Not doing well against infantry if used improperly
6)Fully Combined Arms; Can take on anything and ask for seconds.

Phases of An Assault

"A"
Getting to your target Safely

Getting to your target means to reach as close as you can to the objective before doing the actual attack. This can be done by either sneaking towards the objective or by going in guns blazing. The first one is the hardest to achieve yet it leaves no chance for the opponent to understand what is going on and where you are coming from or leave him with the chance to regroup and retake the flag. The second type is the easiest but it makes the enemy defense much stiffer than what it would be without the whole noise/disruption of silence. It is used in all public games by anyone at any time.Actually i believe 99% of the attacks are of this way.Still although really unorginised it is usually used with overwheling force so that its impossible to defend after a while. Now more about getting to the objective silently as this is the hardest and requires skill: A good squad leader or a veteran player usually knows the ways to get to the objective without arising any attention at him at all .After close enough to the objective the Squad Leader should find a nice location to hide and only get out of cover to organize the defense or help the capping of flag.

"B"
Getting in the Flagzone without attracting too much attention

This is the bread and butter of the assault.Especially if you are a mere squad of 4 guys you DO NOT want to attract any attention while getting inside the gray zone. This means a few things: Do not fired unless fired upon or seen,Do not use smoke or any other type of noise/effect making device, plan your attack very well and observe the defenses before going in ,do not waste time sightseeing around(planting mines, stealing kits, getting lost). You either need to follow your squad leader(if enemy completely unaware of your existence so the SL can actually move) or charge in the flag-zone while keeping an eye for the most silent way to move there.
DO NOT ENGAGE AT ALL COSTS! ONLY ENGAGE YOUR ENEMY AFTER YOU ARRIVE AT THE FLAGZONE!!

"C"
1)Defending the flag after a succesfull attack

This is the final part of the assault. After you have achieved to capture the objective you now need to move fast and defend your newly capped flag with all your might. This means that the SL should have already given orders for the defense and you should have (after clearing up the flagzone from annoying enemy pests) taken your possition. The best way in defending a flag is reporting the enemy movement. The easiest way is by using the clock system. This means imagining your compass's "N" is 12° clock "E" is 3 "S" is 6 and "W" is 9.So if an enemy is approaching from NE you do not say simply NE as that could be anywhere. You say "Enemy Infantry/Vehicle at 2½° clock.".Using enemy kits (especially MG's and Sniper Rifles is a nice way to have more firepower. Tip for Squad Leaders: Each member of the squad needs to have a specific sector to guard. You yourself should be hiding or paroling if things are too quiet.

2)Retrying the attack

This simply means that the Squad members who have just been killed need to respawn on the squad leader and re-engage into combat. This means also taking an alternative route to your target and think before acting. It also requires the SL to move to another location before getting killed.

Fully Combined Arms

Fully combined arms assault cannot fail unless faced with a whole 32players all out team defense. It means that Infantry cooperating with light vehicles and half-tracks is engaging in to CQC combat while being covered by the Armored element. After a nice bombarding of the flagzone itself the armor will keep a watch for enemy vehicles while the rest of the army moves in to assault the objective. The APC's will keep providing covering fire and cover for infantry while the latter is securing the flagzone and capping the flag. After the flag is captured infantry squad which is intended to guard it are clearing out the flagzone and area around it while the APC's with non essential squads (for the defense of that particular flag) move out towards the next objective with the cover of tanks.

Sometimes its better to not use iornsights at close range. It can make the difference as its faster in a 1 on 1 rifle battle from a few metres.

Also only throw pokeball when your target is low hp.

Here is a simple tip for tanking:

If you are with a group of tanks, and you are the last tank in line, consider switching to HE instead of AT ordinance.  If you are a group of tanks together, instruct the last tank in line to run with HE ordinance. This tank should be watching for infantry ambushing them, while the lead tanks worry about enemy tanks.

If an enemy tank engages your group, he is most likely going to engage the closest tank to him, (probably the lead tanks). This will give the rear tank time to switch to AT ammo. However if an AT infantryman engages your group, he is probably going to let at least one or two tanks go by. The last tank in line is the most likely one to see him, and he will need to be able to react fast as AT infantry only expose themselves for a second. HE rounds however, can be effectively fired at infantry without pausing to aim.

Also note that it's better to have a bit of a gap between the main column and the last tank, so that the AT infantryman thinks that the last tank of the column has already passed and decides to come out of the bush he is hiding in, only to run in front of the last tank.

The browning pistol, or pistols in general are overlooked, these weapons are the most shizz  >:(

Two shots to the chest or one to the head is all you need, rapid firing in close situations is not necessary and amatuerish - you can easily critically wound someone enough to put them at a disadvantage (bleed out), buying yourself time to turn your attention to any other enemy who 'need a cap in their ass',... keep moving and firing, reload then swing back and finish off mr. medipack dolphin who you shot first... keep moving, thats the trick and none of that nancy 762 glitching side-to-side, I'm talking sprint, zig-zag, swing back or do a double-bluff running round a corner come back and pop more caps in his face, and don't be scared to run-n-jump onto the top of a halftrack and shoot the driver - it's possible.

When behind enemy lines in a tank, and under good cover (i.e. behind a good row of trees/hedges)... take some time (a few seconds) to turn off the tank and listen for incoming vehicles.  You can hear their general direction, and you you can be ready to aim in the correct direction (after resuming the first position and turning the engine back on) as soon as they veer around the corner of your hedge.

Playing as Commander, always try to think with strategy when ordering your forces. Keep in mind the enemy movements, commonly used enemy routes, and a quality tactic to lead your force to victory.

Don't just flank your enemies, bombard them and lower their will to play for their army. Use tactics such as the Pincer maneuver, and always support your teammates with supplies, vehicles to keep the advance going/resuppling areas in need of defense, and arty to "soften the attack zone."

These are really some of the best commander tactics I can come up with, besides try to always have an organized chain of command.

Also, eh, don't waste grenades unless you're in a despair situation (Such as being pinned down by an MG, and in such case only use rifle nades for better accuracy) or cannot take down a group of infantry due to a lack of fast firing weapon, that can react to the infantry seeing the direction of the rifleman who just took out their best friend.
