Here in the USA, college is extremely fucking expensive? Why? Because almost everyone now goes to some kind of college, meaning that the student bodies are now tens of thousands of students at any one university. Meanwhile, the government doles out student loans like crazy, which causes the public university system to raise it's rates, because it knows that the students will be able to afford whatever they raise it to. Meanwhile, universities create useless departments and programs, educating people in Chicano Studies, Women's Liberation studies, Art History, etc, all things that have literally no job market, or use in the world, and should not be a the focus point they have become in school. All this is expensive. And so, when my parents were able to pay their way to a MBA and a Doctorate just by working minimum wage jobs, I now am saddled with over $30,000 in debt just for my BA.
