Biggest-Ever Night Sky Image Released
« on: 18-01-2011, 21:01:19 »
http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/01/big-sky-image/

"The new image consists of 1.2 trillion pixels and covers a third of the night sky, capturing half a billion individual stars and galaxies. Every yellow dot in the image (above) is a galaxy, and zooming in on each dot reveals a galaxy’s detailed structure and individual star-forming regions."

I think this picture will be fun to toy with in an editor.

If you zoom in a couple of times, you are still barely seeing anything but galaxies.  You are but a nanomolecule upon a speck upon a speck upon the pimple of the ass of the galaxy; which in itself is a nanomolecule upon a speck upon a speck upon the pimple of the ass of the universe.

Meh.  Hubble Ultra Deep Field is far more noteworthy to me.

If memory serves, VonMudra's dad runs some sort of astronomy on-line shop? VM is that true? Post the site if you dont mine, I need a few parts for my Meade telescope. Its a real POS, but I do not feel like buying a new one at this time.
