But one drawback in free version of Avast is that you must sit there and watch when it scans you computer because it stops the scan whenever it finds something. AVG on the other hand finishes whole scan before it ask how to deal with the stuff it found.

If you are receiving numerous pop-ups informing you, you have a virus and asking you to download software to rid yourself of it. Chances are its a SmitFraud Virus. You can get rid of it using a tool call SmitFraudFix. Be warned though there are imitators out there.

sounds like he just went on one of those warez websites that had a routine javascript pop-up that simply said "Hey you got sum viruzez! Why not download these trojans to scan your computer forever and ever?"  It's a 80% certainty that there was never any virus involved, just an irritating message that misinformed him.  There's loads out there, designed to make the web illiterate feel like "shit I gotz viruz!"  Why all they are really doing is pulling you into one of their virus scanner purchase schemes.

My advice, if you DO NOT browse porn, DO NOT search for keygens, warez, porn, if you DO NOT open every email you receive and can instantly tell that "omg this person wants me to give them all of my bank details and/or porn". - Then for 99% of your internet browsing experience you will not need an antivirus scanner.  All you will need is Spybot running in the background so you don't look like a peenus when you tell everyone "I got no virus scanner".  The world has been sold the idea of internet security by fucktards like Norton who make a lot of money out of the sheeple who likes internet porn.

It can't hurt to have a virus scanner, and there are good ones for free. I also recommend avast, I had better experiences with it than with avira. And seriously, who's NOT browsing for porn

Ok that was way OT, but you can trust Avira, it might not be the most up to date freeware tool, but it definitly is safer than having none. Hence the condom reference

I find Avira to be ALOT more up to date these days than ever before. It seems that every other day, give or take, there is an update.

And you can't argue with Spybot S&D. That program is BAMF.
