Need Some help German speakers!
« on: 30-01-2010, 02:01:08 »
I am working on a project for German class, and I need to know a couple things. ( I would use the translator but you know how that works) Anyway, I need to know how to say: To get there from _______________, follow these directions, or something of the sort. I also need to know how to say turn left on ___________ street ( I think its Biegen Sie rechts in der ___________.)

Thanks for any help

Um von __________ dahinzukommen, folgen sie diesen Anweisungen.

Do you mean turning ino a street, or going from a street?

To get there from _______________, follow these directions, or something of the sort.

Examples:
Um von hier dort hinzukommen, nehmen sie bitte diesen Weg.
Um von der Schule zur U-Bahn zu kommen, folgen sie der gelben Markierung.
Um ihr Ziel von zu Hause aus zu erreichen, sollten sie ein Taxi nehmen.
Um dort [...] anzugelangen, sollten sie die Wegbeschreibung beachten.

turn left on ___________ street ( I think its Biegen Sie rechts in der ___________.)

Biegen sie ab (from a street)
Biegen sie ein (into a street)

Examples:

Biegen sie von [der Manchester Road] rechts/links in [den Hamburger Weg] ab.
Biegen sie von [der Manchester Road] rechts/links in [den Hamburger Weg] ein.

The article sat before the street name depends on the street gender, thus it cannot be sat in a gapped summary. As the target direction is an adverb in this sentence, you cannot use 'der' as this adverb requires extra grammatical treatment, being transformed to 'den'. But maybe someone else who knows better should teach you.

gender examples:
- der Weg
- die Strasse
- der Pfad
- die Allee

You know.. i think it would be better for you to just buy a book:P Ive had German class for over 6 years and i cant speak 1 single sentence. My hearing and reading is alright but 8 years after i really regret not paying attention.
I'm taking my own freedom
puttin' it in my song
singing loud and strong
proving all day long
I'm takin' my freedom
puttin' it in my stroll
I'll be hop-steppin' y'all
lettin' the joy unfold
