All rumors point to a PS4 reveal. Even if i was not fanboy the inner geek in me is curious as to what the next gen Sony console will be like.

Watchdogs now......Best/only shooter so far was Killzone 4. Hope to see some BF4 before they are done.

Why would anyone would like a shitty PS4? The news say that it will offer new gameplay options, not hardware upgrade for today standarts, which will mean, more graphical limitations that will hold off game designers.

x86 processor
8GB RAM
Nothing really impressive so far.
-
At least games won't be locked to 720p 30 FPS any more :P
-
As long as these new consoles require always on connections and no longer offer physical disc copies, I will definitely not purchase them.
Alot of the new promises don't really add up to much in the long run, they just want to sell you a new console (before the old one is worn out) and take a bigger cut of profits from the game producers (a la itunes)
In the end, dedicated gamers will get screwed by less choice, lack of competition and higher prices. These developments will only serve to sell less consoles and kill small studios which provide innovation and spur creativity amongst the giants.

8GB GDDR5 is pretty impressive to be honest. Kinda insane actually.
-
Not really, been running that setup for more than a year now. :)
-
But it's console, look at the PS3 specs they suck for a computer yet the games like uncharted 3 look beautiful. Now imagine what PS4 games will look like as everything can be optimized and most importantly game industry can finally evolve and PC games will also start to look miles better as consoles won't hold the back.
Compare Resistance 1 to Resistance 3, imagine what PS4 games will look like in 2 years 8).

Doesn't matters to be honest. Pc games are always evolving and there's packs to get better graphics and effects (skyrim for example) while consoles stay behind and hold off game designers, especially when a game its multiplataform. They have to take so much stuff away and in the end, it also hurts the pc game.

It is shared with the GPU though.

Well it's still 16 times more than on PS3

Not going to be a day one purchase by me like the PS2 and PS3 due to the backwards compatibility issues. If something changes between now and then I will probably change my mind. I like the fact that they made a point of talking about how this console was tit to develop for unlike the PS3. Should make for much less bullshit and compromise when seeing ports from the PC and make for some better games on both platforms. The one announcement that really made me breathe a sigh of relief was the 8GB off GDDR5 RAM. I mean how many of us where playing on PC's with just 256MB in 2006? Not fucking many. Right now I am playing on a PC with 8GB of DDR3, and will be for years to come. I think the PS3 users (and PC users to some extent) have paid dearly for Sony's lack of foresight when it came to RAM on the PS3. Lets hope this raises the bar for everyone on future games. :)

I'm sort of the same about the backwards compatibility issue. Since this machine is after all, a lower end gaming-PC with a Sony brand, why can it not emulate the software of the previous machines? A Windows or Macintosh PC can do this, and there are plenty of excellent emulators out there. If It can be confirmed that official, or third party, that there will be applications downloadable to emulate the older systems (maybe even including PS3) I will definitely go for it. Otherwise I'll just buy a PS3, since Gran Turismo is really the only Playstation game I currently look forward to playing on a regular.

But dude just wait 5 years and Polyphony will have Gran Turismo 6 out! ;)
BTW: I saw that emulator you linked on the books of face. You got that updated BIOS file? I wanted to give that a spin.
-
Really happy with the PS4 and most likely Nextbox both having x86 architecture. This means more developers will port games to the PC that they would not in the past for the simple reason that it takes far less work.

Nah, I was hoping it was real. But I'm convinced its just a Farce. A ploy to steal money from people.

Sony will stream PS1, PS2 and PS3 games to the PS4. Tbh I hope they stream to PC too. I need to catch up with some Final Fantasy games :)
Good thing they have upped the RAM memory and even better made a it easier to develop for the PS4. This was really hampering some Studios.
Don't compare RAM on consoles to RAM on PC's though. A PS3 or XBOX360, doesn't do Superfetch, load huge amount of the OS processes in main memory and other stuff.
Watch Dogs looked real nice, hoping for a PC release

8Gigs of ram on a console means 8 gigs of ram fully for games
8 gigs of ram on a PC means distribution to games AND other active programs

But that's shared with GPU. PC with 8 gigs of RAM and GPU with 2 gigs, will have more to spare just for games.

But it's not used because games aren't developed with the best hardware scaling in mind.

Gotta understand that a vast majority of Games do not exceed the 2 GIG limit when it comes to Random Access Memory. This is why GPU's come in such sizes, so that a lot of the processing for the game can be done on the GPU. The rest of it is just for multitasking
