Suggestions / Re: We Need this. Dynamic Sky

I read the OP and the first few posts and thought "Mosquill".
And sure enough...  ;D

This is awesome, though knowing Mosquill's track record I worry there's going to be some catch that makes it useless :( . I hope to be proven wrong.

As for the criticism... obviously we're not going to have maps lasting 24+ hours, but they do sometimes last half an hour or more, and making it so that a map for example starts dark and then grows gradually brighter would be awesome. For example an assault map where attackers should make the most of the cover of darkness and advance quickly, because towards the end of the round, things will be bright enough for the other team to see them easily.

The sun moving that quickly looks too unrealistic, I would suggest making it real time or closer to real-time, but that's just me
Yeah, 'cause he obviously intends for the end product to be like that. Days lasting ten seconds would fit Project Reality so well.

I'm sorry but have these forums become a giant wet dream, where we imagine everything that will never be?
No? Have you seen indications to the contrary somewhere?

It's going to take 1-2 years to make the Eastern Front! Besides there is so much incomplete stuff atm. The Italians don't have most of their gear!!!! We only just touched on Europe! Think of how awesome Operation Market Garden would be? Or the The buldge?
What is your point? I think I missed the part in the rules that says only to suggest stuff that is close to being made already.

Stop dreaming about stuff and come back to reality.....
You're in a suggestions forum. Dreaming is kinda what they are for ::).

The Warrior, meet the metaphor. Metaphor, meet The Warrior.

You have 1000 pensils and you lose one.You have 5 and you lose one. When will you care the most?
Well, yeah, if you have more people to lose and fight a war over a bigger area, you lose more people. I believe the nation that lost the most people, based on a ratio of total population number, was Poland.

Forgive me for being slightly OT but do you know why the Chinese are less popular a WWII subject among those with an interest in WWII?    They lost around 20 million people during WWII. Their combat related deaths only surpassed by Germany and Russia.  One would think those kinds of losses would at least bring them infamy but surprisingly little seems to be mentioned of them during WWII in regards to most publications on the subject.
WWII history seems to be a lot about pop culture. To go slightly OT, Norway's saboteurs are famous in our country, even though they sat on their butts for most of the war and only went really active until '44-'45. Meanwhile, NORTRASHIP (Norwegian Trading and Shipping Mission), our thousand ships strong merchant fleet, which at one point in the war provided Britain with 1/3 of her oil needs... hardly ever gets a mention. The kids who play games would rather l33tbbqstorm Omaha Beach for the twentieth thousandth time than experience something new, pay homage to worthy recipients, and actually learn something about the other unsung heroes of WWII.

I've been campaigning for a Chinese front myself before, and while I realize FH2 won't get to the PTO for a long time yet, I would definitely love to see the KMT and Communists for a change rather than just US and UK forces. It'd be a very, very welcome breath of fresh air.

I just want China, fighting Japanese troops :).

No, not resolution, texture size. It goes from 256 to 2048 or something. Which of them is fastest and takes up the least disk space? I'm assuming it's the lowest setting?

Got nothing against bare maps myself. The gargantuan Kashan Desert is my favourite Project Reality map :).

Looking pretty good. Not my style of gameplay (I want to make a KotH map for FS some day, but it'd be far less symmetrical :P ), it looks good and is probably fun to play if you like that kind of gameplay.

I'd absolutely love heavy bombers, but even if someone makes a gargantuan Kashan Desert-style map, I don't think there'd be room for them  :-\ . So I guess if you want them in, you'd have to think outside of the box.

You could have them as a squad leader/commander deployed asset, though. The First Strike team made a system that had a fighter jet overfly the map and drop bombs on targets you designated. It's on YouTube somewhere, and if you search "First Strike", you'll probably come across it.

To ask the opposite question, what's the quickest one possible? Or to be more precise, should texture size be set very low or very high? Sorry if that sounds like a very stupid question.,

I just want to say I think this map is epic fun to play!
It must be, if the only complaint is "durr, the fence is in the bridge, durr" :P.

Yup. Artillery is for bombarding far-off targets, not for taking out a tank right next to your base.

The engineers drilled perfectly round holes in the stone and put the poles into the holes.
Come on, if the men of the fourties could build atomic bombs... ;D

Modding / Re: [IDEA] Succession map
« on: 25-04-2010, 11:04:59 »
Well, my buddy and me over at FS (where we first discussed this) intended it mostly as a "just for fun" project. The playability issue is there, and as I said, ground rules would have to be laid down (like respecting the climate and theme of the existing sections). I suppose another good idea would be to not place control points, spawn points or vehicles, for then to look at the map when it was finished and work out a game mode from there.

Sure, for an official map it'd be a dubious plan at best. For a "just for fun" project, though, I think it has potential.

TS means that the whole map (gameplay included) needs a defining trait.  With more than one person making it, they might have different ideas what the map should be like, so it will play like crap.
Oh damn... so sorry. Here I was, so frustrated I couldn't explain what I meant properly, and it turns out I was the one who didn't get it all along ::).

Suggestions / Re: Mortars
« on: 25-04-2010, 11:04:30 »
I'm an avid user of the Packered Mortar Gun and its HE rounds in the First Strike mod, and I've caught so much flak for it that it's a joke :D. It's widely regarded as a "noob tube" even at considerable range and indirect fire, when it takes far more skill to hit things with it than, say, with a sniper rifle.

Yes, being hit with a mortar is frustrating for some reason. I agree, I've been subjected to barrages, too. So letting them fire volleys would probably just make people even more upset, and also reduce the skill it took to use them as you could zero in on enemies more easily. It's probably more historically correct, though (I believe mortars are kind of a "spray-and-pray" weapon), but I think it's just going to lead to frustration. Not necessarily against the idea of overheat, though.
