I got one question to the ModDB thing: Misery is "1st place BEST OVERALL MOD OF THE YEAR 2012" Is that for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - series or the whole modding community?

Thanks Lucky; yes, Misery is a really good mod and gets CoP more to what SoC defined the series to be :) I only have some issues with the looks of some guns (M14 DRM DMR, yak!) but who cares; there are plenty of them that are well made and fit the atmosphere.

EDIT: Of course it is DMR instead of DRM -.-

No. Cry of Zone (ex CryZone, ex CryZone Sector whatsomacallit...) is a standalone cryengine STALKER game/mod.

Lost Alpha is and will always be a mod for Shadow of Chernobyl.

Wow, so many questions :P It's a mix between a shooter and a RPG (you dont really choose your character, but it has elements of this genre). It's about a guy who wakes up and knows only one thing: He has to kill Strelok. That is for STALKER SoC. Good mods for Shadow of Chernobyl are Oblivion Lost and maybe the Arsenal mod if you cannot get enough weapons. Furthermore, Lost Alpha will be released somwhere 2013 I think. Difficult to say if it is a mod or a whole new game though. The second game, Clear Sky, is a pain to play if I am honest. The story could have been interesting but it's buggy, extremly annoying and frustrating at once. I only played it once and won due to a bug :P The third one, Call of Pripyat, concentrates on a field agent trying to find out what happened to an airborne mission that went out of control. Misery is a really good mod for that one that will get a major update soon. If you just need visual enhancements, there exists a mod named Complete for all three games.
Tasks you have to do are killing things, finding artifacts, exploring forgotten secret labs (really scary if you play it for the first time, I can tell you that), many others and then there is the main quest, but I wont spoil it for you.
I'll give you some advice about the gameplay but not too much because learning is part of the game: Map a shortcut for medkits and bandages that you will find quickly (F1, F2; When I played it for the first time I always opened the inventory to bandage me and in that time I got hit another time so that I had to redo all of it ;) )
Second tip: Dont waste ammunition; especially from early to mid game there might be some ammo problems: Go for the headshot if possible (On my first run, I was always low on ammo, made the game much more interesting :D ). Thats all for now; maybe I will add some things later on.

EDIT: I knew I forgot something very important: Save often on new slots, the game does not do that for you; it will save you a lot of frustration, trust me ;)

And play on harder difficulties to get most out of it.

Also, install Complete mod if you want to play vanilla of any STALKER game. Once you are done with that, then you can dive deep into mod world.

Clear Sky was good once you get into Limansk, which was a pretty intense and fun battle, the ending was bugged.

The CNPP mission was the biggest disappointment i ever had in a STALKER game, [SPOILER AHEAD]

Strelok was always bugged... i caught him off map and sniped him 8000 times with my Vintorez and the whole thing was bugged.

Plus the ending was like wtf, you get teleported back to the Swamps i think with tons of cash and the FN2000 and... ok?

CS had a good faction wars system, which was also kinda bugged but it was hella fun to stay in Yantar with a couple of Duty fellas by the factory's entrance and get rushed in the middle of night by Pseudodogs. Clear Sky also had one of the best areas i ever seen in a STALKER game, and that is Red Forest.

SPOILER WARNING:
Yes, I won due to Strelok falling through concrete and getting blocked on NPP ground ;D The faction war was fun at first but got pretty emberassing after a short while. Limansk and the Red Forest were well made but especially Limansk reminded me of a full scale war that I don't want in STALKER. It was very hard to get some money and artifact hunting was rather unsucsessfull for me. I still had Sunrise suit for the last mission and every time a bullet hit me I was nearly dead. Made the gameplay harder but not better at all. The only thing that mattered there were the headshot skills. I had to drop the enemy before he could squeeze of one round ;) CoP was not as good as SoC but was a big improvement gameplay wise.

EDIT: I forgot: too much scripting for a STALKER game. Remember those (annoying) MG-Nests in the hospital? No chance of killing the gunner. He wasn't even attached to the gun. You had to wait for your stupid (invincible) comrade of Clear Sky to clear it with an RPG7. Problem was that one time I was too quick for them and waited directly near the MG to avoid any gun shots. I did but I was killed by this scripted RPG fire -.- Teamkilled in STALKER, thats kinda lame.
