Radar stations
« on: 17-03-2010, 22:03:12 »
I was thinking (when bored) and I rememberd a scene from saving private Ryan when they capture a german soldier by a radar station.
So...I imagine (on some normandy maps) a radar which could detect airplanes and it should have a flak/bofors by it.It should be close to a flag (called Radar station) so the battle could envelope for the radar's power to observe the skies.
We saw radar stations in FH(1) but they were never of some significant importance.

Pls don't throw bananas at me ::)

Fine. Hey, guys! He wants feces only! No bananas! *Donutz sulks*

Seriously I like this idea. I'm not sure at all how common radar stations were on the normandy coast were, But it was one of my favourite levels on Medal of Honor: Airborne and Call of Duty 2.  I would like to see an objectivemode map with this, It would be fun IMO.

Thing is: Forgotten Hope portrays fighting on a tactical level, while radar stations are more of a strategical asset.

Sure but then they could be added as statics to act like flags  ;D

That said, although it can't possibly have the functionality that the OP speaks of, I think it could be used in some maps like the scout plane i.e. exposing the enemy aircraft movement... ofcourse this would be an asset exclusive to Battle of britain

That said, there could/shoud be a static version that could be used in some maps... like Road to Ramelle.

For the BoB version, it will be destructible in order to take out the eyes of the British side and make defending the main targets more difficult since the Brits wont know where the main force of German planes are heading and so they cannot coordinate or put enough men in AA positions around those targets

If we ever do an all air map, I'd love to see not only radar stations, but BF-110 night fighters with a radar controller in the back seat. Its easy enough to code I suppose...

The changelog* for 2.5 included the Wasserman and Wurzburg Riese radars, both of which were present at the Distelfink radar station, located at Douvres-la-Délivrande, between Juno and Sword. I don't think we'll see working radars in the mod however.

* obviously not a guarantee we'll see them (in a public version of the mod).

As for SPR, the less it's mentioned the better IMO, complete fantasy a lot of it (US Paratroopers fighting Tiger tanks, coming across a radar station etc. As for rumored (?) remake of Ramelle Neuville... *shudder*

MOAR multi seat planes with defensive mgs!
 ;D
It'd be nice to see heavy fighters and light/medium bombers and a radar station would stop them being too powerful as you'd know when to take cover in a trench when they did a bombing run!
I play as Dansolo online. I am also a FHT player.

Radar stations are more complicated than you think! At least it has detection "blindspots" or whatever.

so no functional ones.

But BoB is not what it's supposed to be (if it ever will be) without radars.
But for the rest of the maps I agree for making them statics and cap-points,but those flags should be important like the church in Anctonville.
They are , as Ts4EVER said, more like a strategical asset so winning should be imposible without controlling them.

it could be like this, with radar stations your enemies would not get planes. (imagine off map air combats)
