Texas we annexed (It was a Mexican state under rebellion), and doing this annoyed Mexico. Mexico said they would declare war. We wanted more land, and offered to buy it. They rejected it. We marched our troops across in order to provoke a war. They didn't fight. We declared war, then gave them money.
