What happen with dynamic shadow settings ?
« on: 21-02-2016, 17:02:02 »
Hello ,
Everytime when I try set dynamic shadows to enable after FH2 start - this rewert back to "OFF" state.
Change in the in-game video settings also have no effect
I noticed that there are no shadows of objects in the game.
Is it normal ? Anyone has the same symptom ?

Have not experienced that and in fact only recently tried setting to High again because any more than Low seemed to make no difference in quality yet hurt performance since the original BF2. High now has smooth edges instead of jagged.

Have you tried setting from within the launcher? Perhaps the graphics card's settings are interfering? It may not help but can't hurt to delete the alphanumeric subfolder(s) under:
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\ForgottenHp 2\mods\bf2\cache

The first thing I did was clean all FH2 shaders cache.
I tried to turn on the shadows in launcher and in mod , with no effect.
Continuously and automatically turns off shadows when I start FH2.

Also I found a file in " ..\Battlefield 2\mods\fh2\fh2settings\graphics.txt " with additional graphics settings.
Code: [Select]
rem Remove "rem"s to force high quality shadows. I'm especially interested in bitdepth on ati cards
rem shadowManager.shadowMapSize 4096
rem shadowManager.shadowMapDepthDistance 160
rem shadowManager.shadowMapBitDepth 24
rem shadowManager.shadowMapDepthBias 0.005
rem shadowManager.shadowMapSlopeBias 1
... but the change of these parameters has no effect in the game so it probably does not work in mod  :-\
I have no idea.
Someone from the mods development team should read it. Maybe FH2 not support dynamic shadows?
... it always seemed to me that it worked ....
(BF2, Project Reality 1.3.9 - works grat - no problem )

Finding graphics.txt was the reason I set to High to see if there had been a change with 2.5 before trying to force them but found it unnecessary.

Try launcher Repair option? What graphics hardware and are its settings default with no old FH2 profile?

See YouTube for examples of shadows.

Re: What happen with dynamic shadow settings ? SOLVED

First , thanks for your help.
Problem solved.
The solution is simple !!!
Set the lights to 'low' will automatically shut down shadows. Others set the lights do not turn off the shadows. ( wooow ....)
It is a pity that the developers did not put in the launcher aps small dialog box explaining the relationship configuration , to avoid confusion and waste of time.

Treat closed.

Glad you got it sorted.

As far as shadow quality, I have since noticed instances where jagged edges remain -particularly when cast on a wall rather than the ground (for example a halftrack at Seelow Heights Manor). So I wonder if graphics.txt settings can improve that?

From somewhere I have these commands to improve shadows
Code: [Select]
shadowManager.shadowMapSize 2048
shadowManager.shadowMapDepthDistance 80
shadowManager.shadowMapBitDepth 24
shadowManager.shadowMapDepthBias 0.0025
But I´m not sure if they still work, especially with current ATI drivers, since BF2 is optimized for (old) Nvidia drivers.
