Our gb_lose and US_lose are the same, and they are based on the instrumental version of the Ethernal Father - hymn of both British and US Navy. The exact same version  is not available online, but here are some timestamped examples of the fragment it is based on: 1 2 3 4

The BF1942 tune I had in my head when thinking of this melody was the one that ends slowly, like in the intro clip which you get to see when you open the game (I think it was the part where you saw the submarine passing by), but that part is not in the video I linked to, that one indeed has no similarity.
