shit this thread makes me feel old.

In my youth I used to listen to heavy metal, I saw Metallica at Donnington in the 80's when they were supported by Megadeath.  No it's just noise to me now, such a shame, because like you said the stories they tell are quite unique and poetic.

Completley not heavy metal (and probably too pansey for you) - but some good war songs, to get lyrics from, Don McLean 'The Grave', The Pogues 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda', The Zombies 'The butchers tale'.

Completley heavy metal and my suggestion (you probably already have) Megadeath 'Ashes in your Mouth', Metallica 'Blackened', or 'Disposable Heroes', is Judas Preist heavy metal to you? if so Dissident Aggressor.

And just because no matter what you listen to you should always have Floyyd in your collection...
Pink Floyyd - When the Tigers broke free
Pink Floyyd - Get your filthy hands of my dessert

Not at all, I have a wide taste in music. Infact I love the Pogues and "-Waltzing Matilda" Is a beautifully arranged piece of music.

And Yes, I believe Judas Priest is Heavy metal, Metallica I don't as much, more as a sub-genre to Heavy metal.

And Pink Floyd are amazing.

Now that I think of it, there´s a cool German Trash Metal Band called Sodom (link)
Of course it´s about 16 years since I really last heard them but I have them in good memory.
One song is even called Bombenhagel, then there´s Agent Orange, Persecution Mania, Ausgebombt and more I think..
Check there site for lyrics. But since the Lead Singer calls himself Tom Angelripper, don´t excpect any deepeer thoughts inside the lyrics :D

Actually I think One from Metallica is the best War based song I know, maybe because I also watched the movie. Very moving :o

Iron maiden is perfect for war songs. 80 % of their songs are about death, the rest about egypt/time travel and death.
I see were you are trying to reach: "how can a 17 year old kid have such a thinking like this? why doesnt he wants to be like normal teens who whana get rich? and his plan actually makes sense, but is too damn revolutionary and good at the same time than is still doubthfull if it works..." - Damaso

Iron Maidens Aces High is just the ultimate song for stuff like that, yeh.

Metallica is more like Trash Metal (Speed metal in the beginning) .. they are quite far from the "HEavy" genre ...

Yeah, I much prefer Heavy Metal to Thrash Metal. I'm quite picky with the correct labeling of bands/genres.

Metallica has never been speed metal. Thrash in the beginning, hardrock/heavy metal mid 90's and then back to thrash.

Nice thread :)

About the specific topic of the Reich being bombed, Sabaton got that covered, so I figured it might give you some good ideas.
