Off-Topic / HELP NEEDED
« on: 28-06-2015, 15:06:37 »
A while back I changed my e-mail address on WWIIReenacting.co.uk and that resulted in the de-activation of my account. After e-mailing the moderators a few times, I have received neither a reply, nor has my account been rendered usable again.

I would therefore like to kindly ask if anyone on the forums is also registered over there, and if so, could bring this to the attention of their moderators so that they will get me back on-line? This is quite pressing since not only do I enjoy their community but I have a forum member waiting on a reply for quite a while now which I obviously cannot oblige him with.

I would like to thank everyone in adavance and would like to remind you that there are some things that I still have for sale, e.g. US uniforms and webbing, ammo boots, a slouch hat, &c&c.

Off-Topic / Ammo Boots, M43 Field Jacket &c&c for Sale
« on: 31-05-2015, 12:05:00 »
Dear Forgotten Hope Two community,

I am looking to sell a pair of WPG ammo boots in size nine, the condition is grade one, basically I just broke them in. They are already nicely polished, please ask for pictures if you are interested.

A WPG M43 field jacket is also available. It is in size 42 and looks like new, I have not worn it too often and it has not experienced campaigning.

There are some more US items that I might sell, just enquire if there is anything that you are looking for.

By the way, does anyone here own the new WPG British officer boots?

Yours faithfully,

Modding / World War One Mini-Mod
« on: 21-04-2015, 17:04:31 »
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with the utmost pleasure that I hereby announce the creation of a World War One themed mini-mod for Forgotten Hope Two. I hope to get in touch with the No man's Land developers and see what I may borrow from them, keeping in mind that their efforts were astounding as was the quality of their work.

The only problem is that I am the only person 'working' on this and I have no modding skills whatsoever. I might try making maps for this and doing the historical re-search.

My goal is to focus on creating a good playing experience and not doing everything from scratch. If the developers agree, I will try to use as much of Forgotten Hope Two's assets and try to integrate this into the main build as it is planned with Hungarian Front. If you think about it, we already have a lot of the World War One equipment in-game, such as the Sht. Le. Mk. III* and the Webley Mk. VI.

If anyone is interested in helping me with this, please let me know. I will amend this post with a list of assets that still need to be created shortly.

I would like to thank you for reading this and hope to hear your opinions as well as constructive criticism as this hopefully draws on. I am thinking of continuing the project under the title of No Man's Land if the developers of this modification grant me the necessary permissions.

Assets to be created:

  I. 1897 pattern Infantry Officer's Sword
II. Updated player models for the British Army
III. New Textures for Webley Mk. VI
IV. New textures for 1907 bayonet

Yours faithfully,

General Discussion / The Wonders of Sweetfx
« on: 04-02-2015, 20:02:55 »
Dear Community,

I have used Sweetfx for a while now and am amazed by how it makes Forgotten Hope 2 look even better than it already does! However, I am not an expert, so I stayed away from those fancy numbers and just en-abled or dis-abled this marvelous programme's numerous features. The result was quite stunning to say the least, creating really dark shadows that I had always missed in this great game. However, I am not sure if the shadows are a little bit too dark on some maps; Hürtgen Forest is one of those that tends to be a little too gloomy, albeit I would still call it authentic. Other maps are looking are truly looking photo-realistic, e.g. the Battle of Keren.

Knowing that a few ladies and gentlemen active on these forums are using this splendid programme as well, I would like to invite you to please post your favourite, most realistic settings.

Please find attached my current settings file and feel free to let let me know what you think about it. It does re-create those lovely low-light ambients perfectly; if I enter a bunker it really is dark inside for a change.

Sweetfx should let you play on-line without problems and even offers alternative Anti-Aliasing modes, such as FXAA and MSAA that will not harm your suppression and wounded shaders. I therefore highly recommend it to everyone reads this, especially since it will work with any other game, too!

Here is a link to download Sweetfx: http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/

I would also like to thank the entire staff in addition to community contributers for all of their dedication and hard work that they have constantly displayed since the very beginning of this great modification.

Yours cordially,

Suggestions / Correct Animations
« on: 22-05-2014, 04:05:01 »
The Boys Anti-Tank rifle's animations are really jumbled up. The bi-pod re-tracts without reason and the re-loading animations are edgy, too. The Webley's animation seem fine to those who never saw how it operates in reality. This is what it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXttUfJdQYE I tried to find someone properly operating a real one, but the TW trailer illustrated it best. Hint: The shells in the cylinder get ejected automatically when you open the action. I am awre of the fact that We are not exactly having an abundance of developers with an endless amount of time on their hands, but I do consider these changes quite important. The most important change that I would like to suggest however are proper crawling animations. The current abominations really hurt the game a lot. I know, you cannot re-load and dive at the same time if we implement this, but it is impossible in reality as well and is an immersion-breaker of the same dimension as bunny-hopping and dophin-diving.

Off-Topic / Rare Mosin?
« on: 09-03-2014, 05:03:51 »
Good Evening everyone,

I recently bought a Mosin 91/30 and noticed that it has a heart stamped on the receiver. From what I heard, those are quite rare and could end up bringing enough money for two Mosins. Is that correct or should I simply go out and shoot it to-morrow? If the rifle 1943 dated and made by Izhevsk if I recall correct. It also has pretty brass fittings on the hand guards. Numbers are matching save for the bayonet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!  :D

Cheers,

Off-Topic / Ksl94 buys an M35A2
« on: 23-09-2013, 05:09:24 »
Hello my friends, I decided to buy myself a deuce-and-a-half. She was made in 1985 and served in the LA Army National Guard. She received a full overhaul in 2007 and drives like... Well, just like it should. New tires and new batteries, ready to roll! The only issue is that I will probably kill the drive-through of the local restaurants with this monster, but that is just part of the fun  :P . The other problem is that she has of course no locks, meaning that anyone could just drive off with it. I thought of installing a padlock and a heat-treated chain on the inside of the door that is linked to the cab, so that you can open the door a couple inches wide, but need to open the lock to get inside. That way, the truck does not look altered but is protected against thieves. I will repaint it in the Vietnam-era paint scheme. Oh yes, and I am going to use it as an everyday truck... Yes, I will actually sell or trade my excellent 2003 Ford CVPI for it. That means, if you are looking for an outstanding car, I have one for $5000. I am used to driving big trucks like church buses, pickup trucks and so forth, so maneuvering in close quarters is easy for me. In fact, I tried the parking abilities of this beauty and she did just awesome. As soon as I sell the car, I will drive her home and take some pictures for you. Actually she is equipped with an automatic transmission, so all you have have to do is hit the gas and avoid fapping. By the way, it is perfectly possible to use this thing in everyday life. I can only encourage you get one yourself. I am dead serious, I have never been happier in my life than in the moment in which I activated the starter of this awesome truck  :-* . If anyone of you gents ever come to Dallas, I shall give you a ride  :D .

If anyone knows a better solution for the lock issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you have resources for the paint scheme (colour codes, appropriate markings, etc.) I would greatly appreciate it.

Off-Topic / To shoot, or not to shoot?
« on: 14-08-2013, 07:08:51 »
Dear FH2 community,

I bought a Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III* SMLE rifle at a gunshow last year, which is 1943 dated and made by Lithgow. It appears to be unfired and is all numbers matching. The finish is 95%, wood is 100 but there is minor corrosion on the receiver. It looks new. I tried to sell it for a good while now and noone had a sincere interest in it. Now, I am facing a very difficult decision that has plagued me for dozens of weeks now: Shall I abandon my futile attempt to sell the rifle and use it myself? The gentlemen in the Gun Library at Cabela's Ft. Worth told me last week that the furniture *could* have been arsenal refinished, tempting me more and more to just take the bloody thing to the range and start using it for living history, hunting, &c. This is where you come in: Shall I or shouldn't I?

Cheers,

Modding / Secondary NCO kit causes CTD
« on: 12-06-2013, 19:06:14 »
Dear FH community,

I have just managed to put the British army on Brest with the help of RADIOSMERSH, without whom all of this would not have been possible. Everything works well now, except the rifle option for the NCO. Whenever I want to select it, the server crashes. Is there any special procedure to undertake within the init.con or the tmp.con? I would be very grateful for any replies  :D  .

Cheers,

Gaming / ARMA II. Weapons Replacement
« on: 09-05-2013, 14:05:28 »
Dear fellow ARMA players,

I tried to replace all of the UNSUNG mod weapons with their ACE/RH counterparts, but somehow my addon is not working and it looks like no one on the Armaholic forums can help out  :-\ . Here is a link to the topic that I created: http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=22069 . It would be great if someone could help me out. Also, does anyone know a good tutorial on how to replace weapons in ARMA II? Up to now, I found some but they didn't help much.

Cheers,

General Discussion / menu_server.zip
« on: 15-04-2013, 16:04:55 »
Dear FH2 community, while trying to remove those annoying CP flag indicators that litter my screen (and all the other junk that keeps showing, does anyone know how I could remove that and the CP icons?), I accidentally broke my menu_server.zip and I would be highly grateful if anyone could send me a copy or upload it somewhere! Also, I tried removing nametags entirely but I am somewhat stuck.

Off-Topic / The great Militaria Trading/selling Topic
« on: 21-03-2013, 17:03:09 »
Dear FH2 community,

I figured that a topic in which the community can sell militaria to fellow members is needed. Alternatively, you can also trade items. In case you are looking for something but don't seem to find it anywhere, you may post a buying request aswell. That way, we can help one another and avoid buying from total strangers, as it is the case on various trading platforms like e.g. Ebay.

The rules:
  I. Please try to keep this topic tidy and only post if you offer an item or are looking for a particular
   one.
II. If you have any questions or enquiries regarding items that are for sale, please pm the vendor.
III. Feel free to offer anything militaria related and, above all, enjoy  ;) !

FH2 Help / Support / Re-installing BF2 (EA Download Version)
« on: 20-03-2013, 17:03:09 »
After experiencing dozens of problems, like my infamous rubber-banding/ping on local set-up issue, I seriously thought about re-installing BF2. However, I was highly impatient at the time and didn't want to wait for the disc version to be shipped-so I decided to buy it directly from EA and downloaded it from their website. Does anyone know how I can safely do so without loosing access to the game (It's been four years ago when I bought it and I therefore forgot the registration data and I am not too shure where I stored that data).
If I can't work out the issues that plague me, I will have to go through this, no matter what  :P .
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Off-Topic / Quality Militaria suppliers
« on: 24-02-2013, 20:02:51 »
Dear FH2 community,

A couple of days ago I thought about creating a thread in which everyone can list their favourite militaria suppliers. Often, people who are new to collecting or reenacting wonder where they can get the best quality gear. This thread should help them to buy from the right companies.

What Price Glory (WPG):
The best supplier for high quality gear, both repro and original, for the US armed forces and the British army plus the RAF. Their repros are just lovely and often of a better quality than the original wartime production.
Also, their prices are very good. This company is the best out there. I have already purchased a full set of British infantry equipment, ranging from personal items to gun slings and webbing plus three sets of KD uniforms and one P-37 BD. Their helmets are of superb quality, too. Their American gear is also top notch, as I found out when buying a full set of webbing and numerous other items from them. The shipping speed and rates are exceptional, too.

Epic Militaria
These lads do the best German stuff I've ever seen. A mate of mine has bought many items from them, including steel helmets, collar tabs and visor caps. The items were indistinguishible from their original counterparts, what is there more to say? The Allied equipment and uniforms are excellent, too. Shipping is cheap and lightning fast. They managed to ship my friend's package from Britain to continental Europe in just two bloody days!
http://www.epicmilitaria.com/

Soldier of Fortune
They offer lots of items for both the allies and the Axis. They're the only ones offering Japanese gear besides IMA-USA. However, be advised that their webbing often smells funny. The P-37 compass pouch is the worst, though. It took three months of ventilation to make it usable. In the end, it was too small to accomodate the compass. The leather wallet I got can be smelled within a radius of two metres, although it has been outside since November. The rest of the items I ordered from them were really good, though.
Shipping is average, being well priced but rather slow.

IMA-USA
Never ordered from them, but they're site is definitely worth taking a look. They've even got original armour from the English Civil war!
http://www.ima-usa.com/

ZIB-Militaria

Great range of products that are mainly original. Looking for a replica Nebelwerfer or a PAK? You'll find one. Looking for a deactivated MG-42? Buy one for 300 Euros. I could continue this list forever. However, please be advised that they're logistics are at times rather chaotic, they once lost my order and sent it two months late with things I never ordered, but the customer service was very friendly and we got things fixed quickly. That catastrophic water bottle I ranted about in my British equipment thread came also from them, but I guess it was an exception. I am currently awaiting three packages from them containing some really awesome items. I will report on them as soon as I get them. They've got the broadest range of products together with IMA-USA.

Suggestions / Animations for edged weapons
« on: 23-02-2013, 19:02:29 »
Dear FH2 community,
I recently noticed that one can use any edged weapon in FH2 both with the left and right mouse buttons.
I then figured, that the right mouse button could be used to use the weapon in a different way. For example, one can either stab or slash with a knife. We could assign stabbing to the left mouse button and slashing to the right one. Also, the FS knife would require different animations than the other knives for it was really a unique weapon in many ways. The reason for this is, that it was not designed as a combat knife, but as a pure fighting knife. I read Fairbairn's book All-in Fighting (1942 reprint) and it contains the techniques of what I would call the undisputed master of Close Quarters Combat. I'd love to scan the pages in question, but I decided not to out of fear to get into copyright issues. This video explains pretty well what the FS knife is all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDGHKyB3T_U
As for the bayonet, the right mouse button could be used to carry out a melee attack with the butt of the rifle, as was done at very close distances at which the bayonet would be ineffective.
Please feel free to add your own suggestions regarding this topic and tell me what you think about the
points I made.
