Do you refuse to ever go into the ocean because of sharks? Are you scared of dogs, which kill more people than spiders per year? Or horribly murderous primates? I am sure mosquitoes kill hundreds of thousands of people per yer, and if spiders were not around they would kill millions.
Size is a factor - spiders bite out of self defence. They are not maniacal creatures that lurk around plotting to bite humans, they bite people because they are tiny creatures who occasional try and defend themselves against giant things trying to kill them.
It's irrational to be frightened of things that will almost certainly never have any impact on your life.
Also, people in other places eat spiders and bugs and the like, clearly they do not have any societal taboo on spiders. For some reason the western world turns to pussies when confronted with them.
I never swam in an ocean. Yes, i don't like those big loud dogs that jump aggressively against the fence when you walk past. well trained dogs are fine. Other people i mistrust the most, some are really creepy. when a other human has a big knife in his hand i always feel fear. Strange huh but that is me. I dont have that when they have a firearm in the shooting club, but outside of there i sepose i would feel the same fear then if it is a stranger.
Mosquitoes are the most lethal animal in the world, try tens of millions as reference, well, not themselves but the things they spread are. Yes i don't like them, yes i have repellent for them in my house and yes i have nets at the windows. I also take special medication if i go to an area where they spread dangerous diseases. You are a retard if you don't.
No, big animals you can avoid, when i take my jacket, sit in sofa, sit in grass i can accidentally come to close to a spider causing it to attack me. You have no control most of the times about that. You don't see the spider, but it sees you and attacks you because it feels threatened. in other words, it attacks you when you dont expect it. based on a misunderstanding.
true, some maniac killing 300 people by shooting down a passenger jet don't trigger an emotion, i don't fly, most people i know don't fly so for all i care they can shoot one down every day, what is the chance it will fall ontop of me right? /sarcasm
But to be honest, i agree, no point being scared of things that statisticaly are super unlikely to happen. but you cant always control deep emotion. sometimes a feeling is just there and is very hard to ignore even though you mind tells you it is fine. example, when you know you are at a safe distance of burning oil, and you know they will add water to it as a demonstration causing a really big flame. Well, when they do 99% of people will take a step back even though they know they are safe. Its just something hardwired into the brain.
There is a difference between fear and over reaction. I dislike spiders, i will kill them, but i wont freak out when i see one. i take a tissue and crush it between my fingers.
I like eating snails. I don't like touching slimy snails. See the difference?
