Yes, it's that time of the year. After a long and hard 9 months of development, we are proud to be announcing the release date of Forgotten Hope 2 version 2.4.

I'm storing all beta patches on my HD since I joined the betas before 2.2 aaaand:

"After 2.2" folder contains 12 files.

"After 2.25" folder contains 15 files.

"After 2.26" folder contains 18 files.

"After 2.3" folder contains 55 files.

You don't need crosshair for short distance... and you can't hit long distance without aimind down sights.

especially the details, the german roadsigns, Aachen, Monschau etc. on yellow ground. and then the forest map, something totally different from the maps we have now.

FINALLY !! A FOREST MAP !!!
but Hurtgen forest seems a bit wierd to me (http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/screenshotsfh2/news/2.4release/minimap.jpg), small corridors of fighting, dunno what it will looks in public, can't wait to try. And I was hoping a bit more dense wildlife, but it looks to have a lot of bunkers to clean up, it's an idea that I like a lot, only hope no more german party bunkers.

Well to me Hurtgen is the best map in game by far! Nice intense and slower gameplay than it is usual in FH2. Some don't like it, I love it.

I hate playing with crosshair and I had removed it be myself be making it completely invisible a long time ago so it is nothing new for me. But what I am sure is that I will die less from riflegrenades, because aiming with them without crosshair is much harder!  ;)

just FYI  rifle grenades will have a crosshair, but it wont be a precision instrument  but works well enough to get elevation sorted out.  we tested without rifle grenade crosshair and that just didnt worked out.

removal of the crosshair promotes SMGs in CQC over the previous dominant semi auto rifles.  sure you can still spam with he semi rifles but wont be that effective as before.

as for hürtgen,  this is one intense map. often the words PR-like fell in teamspeak the environment can be your best friend and your worst enemy. a single hidden MG42 gunner can tear apart the whole enemy team if they run around in the woods. on the other side sneaking through the woods can give you great cover for flanking attacks.
combined with the new color correction filters that help blending in the environment laying ambushes is a very viable option in a well coordinated defense.

aircraft changes will be great but the big shitbricking thing will be the revised tank combat.

The map looks great, really dense forest fighting, and the awards will be for all servers now! no more playing the same 7 or whatever maps in a row on 762

Removal of crosshair- love the sound of it

and new mroe immersive movement- sounds very promising
can any devs say what kind of specific changes have been made?
i.e. is it like pr where your momentum carrys you a bit when you stop moving forward and you move slower overall? or something completely differnt?

Wow. I expect that few people will reach some of the Gold medals, but at least there's always a challenge for everyone. Artillery might be the easiest to achieve :p

Player physics, not sure if want, have to try first.

No crosshair = we don't want to make FH play like PR, amirite? /troll

Srsly, this is a good change and means that finally melee weapons will be used instead of two riflemen circle strafing each other and firing from the hip. Now all we need is some female playermodels once the Eastern Front rolls in. Tulis kaameita lähitaisteluita, khihihihi.

Hürtgenwald, I would have gone without the OOB zones in the forest and just relied on the push system.  This has the danger of turning into another Ramelle. At the very least, I would have done parts of map inaccessible with minefields and natural obstacles instead (a bit like how Mareth Line has been made), but we shall see.

EDIT: Friday = payday and the beginning of a three-week summer vacation! Yay!

Im not afraid that Hürtgen will turn into ramelle, tunis or Point du hoc.
It looks too large with too many stuff to hide behind, and too many different ways.
Just take Purple heart lane, its a hard map but not even such a meatgrinder like tunis or pdh-

The areas marked red are actually minefields with uncrossable obstacles around them.

Uncrossable for vehicles or for infantry as well?

Also, PdH usually does turn into a meatgrinder at the third flag unless the American team back-ninjas the third flag before the first two. But again, we shall see. Also, are the mapsides 512m, 1km or 2km (0,25km2, 1km2 or 4km2 mapsize)?

CANT. FRIGGIN. WAIT!

I am really looking forward to the no crosshairs. Means you have to use your weapons sights like IRL. Shooting from the hip with automatic weapons takes the fun out of it. Now you have to actually take aim. I use rifles most of the time so I wont be very affected.

The OOB are minefields, just for the minimap you see the OOB.

On the new Wallpaper from fatjoe you can see that the second american soldier from the left is aiming with the new .30 cal at the germans. And he is kneeing?! Does this weapon work like a bar or did you find a way to deploy heavy machineguns? :) (lets see how long it takes till that dream is crushed)

yeah it's only a cool pose.. you can do it yourself even, deploy it laying down, then stand up or crouch. You'll move slowly and can't shoot but at right places you looks ridiculously cool! :)

But no, you can't fire it standing or crouching ingame, sorry for bringing your hopes up :)

Wow this EPIC! I'm so happy that we finally get to play this new version. I haven't looked forward to a release probably as much as 2.0 as I am this one. The updated shaders, no xhairs (finally), updated tank/aircraft, awesome new environments, and tons of new vehicles and weapons make this patch seriously epic.

Besides, once it's done, we can finally get on to the real bread and butter on the Eastern Front ... :D

yeah it's only a cool pose.. you can do it yourself even, deploy it laying down, then stand up or crouch. You'll move slowly and can't shoot but at right places you looks ridiculously cool! :)

But no, you can't fire it standing or crouching ingame, sorry for bringing your hopes up :)

hmm what can be said about Hurtgen forrest, ohh yes there are som amazingly epic inf. battles in the forrest and i doo meen bloody epic and intense unlike seen before, trenches here are you bedst friend.

And another thing the neew release, well lets ust say if the FH2 current puplic version is equal a hardone, well then the neew release will equal sex with your dream girl. that is howe mutch the neew release rocks, compared to the curent puplic version, there have been so mutch done it is unbeleaveble.

I have to admit i cant wait to go puplic myself after this release.

I like that you've got the award system going, due to the statistics tracking across servers (the ones who'll sign up for it).

However, I like to imagine I speak for many of the FH2 players that we don't put too much weight on awards and ribbons, that's what call of duty or bad company 2 is about (collecting shiny stuff to feel good).

I'm not so much a fan of awards either. But I would never deny, that the possibility of stepping up a rank or two, would motivate me to go to my limits.
It is not so much about your personal score, play for your team and you will be rewarded by stepping up the ladder real fast.

Hurtgen doesn't result in Tunis or Ramelle style bottlenecks where tactics and brute force are the major factors.
Due to being able to chose the route of attack, its generally more open ended. I believe the idea is that the team which has better coordination will win.

Nope, the biggest effect the stats have ingame is a rank insignia next to your name in the tab player list.

While you can't really outflank each flag individually, you can outflank that whole avenue as a whole (since I think that no team can hold 3 flags at once).

Editing my post after recovering from the black out caused by this awesome update: Ehemm!

1) Love how the new map looks. Forest looks so eerie! Screenshots scream epicness!
2) Never played without crosshair so this for me will be a real new challenge -absolutely love the idea & challenge this will offer. (PS sometime ago played Fh2 in immersion mode and it was gorgeous but really difficult for first time users)
3) Good job re the smoke shells on mortars. It will give mortar arty more flexibility and will be more useful.
4) Ranks: I like the idea and as someone above mentioned it gives you an ego boost when you receive an award after a whole round fixing vehicles etc. but I am really afraid that this will further compromise teamwork in this AWESOME mod! I really hope that people will not start going Stat ramboing like in vanilla Bf2 and am sorry to say- players of the 762 server.

All in all excellent update. Can't thank you devs + testers enough for this great midsummer surprise! Beats everything! Eagerly awaiting the release of 2.4!

The 3 patchs in Hurtgen arent as narrow as you would think, and like kev already said the germans have to defend all 3 lines witch will release the preasure a little on the US, also if you read the description on the minimap screen the US only really need 2 patchs cleard to advance further then the actual forrest.

If you run around like a headless chicken like i know some of you guys doo somtimes;-) well then you are going to get slaughterd as one on this map.

The maps of this new version are looking just amazing. What I specialy like about them, are the different mutes and styles of the maps.

I have to say, I'm not so much a fan of stats systems, but I think the system you made, can propably increase the teamplay. One think, that I expect of it, is more mortar support (also with the new smoke shells).
I took a look at the award site, and wondered, how many ranks there will be and how the ranks are called. ( is it the same system as in BF2?)

I also took a look at the maps, that were played most by the testers and now I have my conspiracies. What I also like to see, that there will propably different sizes of the maps.

PS: I think Vossenack, Puffendorf and St. Mere Eglise are right ahead.  ;D

Yeah, I know. But I hope this will not provide lonewolfing and baseraping only for get kills for the medal. Getting 60 lmg kills when supporting your squad is a real challenge...

Don't consider those requirements to be final. We will keep track of the performance of the players and if there are awards that are too hard or too easy to get we can change the requirements any time. The awards system was running and tested for quite a while during betatesting now, but of course we can only see how it develops when it is used on public servers.

Those are various maps we've been testing. Some maps are simply not ready for this release yet and some others are tried to review and try out from FH2 dev applicants, Oh and an occasional Eastern Front map just to try out various new equipment from that theater.

We've got some cool maps to show off after 2.4 :)

I'm finally on holidays and will be ready to play the moment the password is released....That only happened once for me and it was back when 2.2 was released....Both times are/were a major release !  :D

I'm a bit skeptical with the removal of crosshairs but I'll see. I'm more excited to know what you guys changed with the tanks. As long as you didn't change my deadly Crusader III I'm fine  :P

All in all, good work devs, tadabesters and everyone who helped making this awesome mod ! ;)

Re tanks: maybe the devs did finally find a way to have separate hitboxes in BF2 engine? So hitting the driver, tracks, or the engine gives the elusive "mobility kill"; and hitting turret, ammo, or fuel tanks gives the "snap, crackle, boom"? Even if immobilization is not possible, there could still be the distant possibility that the "movement" hitboxes give perhaps 75% of current damage and "explosive" hitboxes 125% of current damage. Would finally make it worthwhile to aim at precise spots instead of the general direction of the tank, and would make "fog shooting" much less effective, especially if hit indicators were removed.

Re tanks: maybe the devs did finally find a way to have separate hitboxes in BF2 engine? So hitting the driver, tracks, or the engine gives the elusive "mobility kill"; and hitting turret, ammo, or fuel tanks gives the "snap, crackle, boom"? Even if immobilization is not possible, there could still be the distant possibility that the "movement" hitboxes give perhaps 75% of current damage and "explosive" hitboxes 125% of current damage. Would finally make it worthwhile to aim at precise spots instead of the general direction of the tank, and would make "fog shooting" much less effective, especially if hit indicators were removed.

Doubt it, but maybe they found a way to implement angles at least to some degree, so there won't be Crusaders 1-shot-killing Tigers in NA via an 1o angle...

well, i have no clue at all about the changes but i think we can be pretty sure that HVAP and PZGR40 are taken away from Sherman 76, Panzer IV and Puma.

Actually removel of the Crosshairs is a good thing for the inf. Combat, people usaly take there time to aim and have ther shot count instead of just unloading, then again it depends if you enter a small building/room with a mp40 and its loadet with enemys ;-P but then again when the crosshairs whas still there it whas also spray and pray, in small narrow places that will proberly newer change.

But personaly i love the removal of the crosshairs, it makes alot of thing alot more interesting. People will learn real fast the importence of aiming and using singlefire/single shot over distance or not hit a dam thing if they use a weapon with full auto fire on full auto fire over medium/long distance.

It seem people either love it or don't care at all. The latter for me, although I do like the drumroll when one pops up ;)

It's great to have finally implemented alongside, since it levels the playing field for every server on this matter. I was wondering about another thing. Could you include some news about changes soundwise? Weapons, creepy snowy winds for example? Are there any?

Such a juicy week 8)

Last time i heard they were going to remove all special ammo apart from Tank destroyers, HEAT ammo on short barreled guns, Panzer III's (for some defence agains shermans) and AT-guns.

I believe the evil PR-Team did this on purpose. ;)
But yeah, seeing this, I think we should postpone the FH2.4 release by another two weeks or it will go down badly due to lack of interest/time by the majority of the BF2-Mod-players...  :'(

Well since I forgot my PW for their forums a year ago I havent been checking it alot, and I stopped playing round about the same time after 4 years (PC failed to run it start of last year, then spent 6 months fixing it and re-fixing it, only to finally reinstall, play a few rounds, and say 'that really wasn't worth the time and effort'). But still, new patch, so I might give it a bash.

FH 2.4 will be released as planned on Friday.

Also something for those whom have Nvidia graphics cards and experience heavy "flickering" on 1p weapons!
This has been 95% fixed. Not noticeable anymore ;)

Just so you know, PR release was planned for this Friday for already a few weeks.

We haven't done this intentionnally. Preload is always on Tuesday, release on Friday. So...don't see this as a "oh the ugly bastards, they did it on purpose, OMG, burn them with fire".  ;)

Haha, developing, testing and balancing, not to mention to make sure a release candidate is working and nothing in the new update broke anything else, etc etc.. and still the same date as FH2.4.. yeah, I can say with fair amount of certainty that the two release dates are a coincidence ^^

funny coincidence though :)

I wish Project Reality a very happy and successful release. It'd be lonely in the BF2 modding world without them :)

Well it's not really that much of a coincidence. Friday is the best day for a release, cause you want players to play over the weekend. I'm guessing many PR devs have a similar social background to FH2s, so it is conceivable that stuff like college exams etc influence both teams and their work in a similar way. IIRC 2.2 and PRs release back then were pretty close too. It was bound to happen in the long run.

Ahh finaly it begins kids. The magic winter wonderland and the green enchanting forest that is Hurtgen.
Hurtgen will be the green version of Omaha when you play in the beginning.
Hopefully you will adapt tactics and teamwork soon, otherwise the only thing you will hear is death with it's many horrifying sounds  ;)

It seems that the hit-cross is still there. So, can we have an email/sms/fax/fb/letter/phone call confirmation to hits in FH2 2.5 so that those who have problems handling the uncertainty if they hit or not don't have to worry so much? :)
