It has been happening rather frequently now. Once it starts crashing, no matter how many times I try to load the map it will CTD. From what I read, many other players are having the same issue. It´s been happening in the CMP server so far, I haven´t crashed trying to load on 762. Could it be a server problem?
-
Where did you read about many other players are having the same issue? That sounds like a serious problem, but I honestly don't see any reports.
-
I read it in-game chat. The only name I remember is Geopat. Others will end up reporting it, I´m just not sure it´s the server or if it has something to do with the mod. Today I could not play half of the maps on the CMP server.
-
Hi Blander and Jan
I have the same problem on the CMP server. Maps which filed so far 'Seelow' and 'Bastogne'
I heard indeed from Blander and Geopat, there was one more player with the problem just forgot the name.
-
I have noticed quite a few people disconnecting after map change, both on the CMP and the 762 servers. I am not sure if it is a structural problem with the mod (like the pretty common CTDs that we are all experiencing once in a while) or if it is connected to the new patch.
-
It never happened to me before. I have had ocasional CTDs but not in this way. For example on Seelow, Pegasus, Bastogne and a few others. No matter how many times I try to connect to the server it CTD during the map loading.
-
Now it´s happening on the 762 server, Gazala map.
-
Hey Blander, yeah I had the same problem now also with Gazala. On the 762 server this time.
Before Gazala we played Arad with 100 people. Now Gazala has 87 players, so there might be some more peopel with the same problem.
I deleted the gazala map from my EA games-bf2-mods-fh2-levels directory and after that 'repaired' with FH2 updater (Gazala map 70Mb download). Unfortunately that did not solve the problem.
About the remark from hitm4k3r; you said you saw people disconnect. That is not the same problem I think, we do not really get into the server, we crash out of the game while loading the next map, or am I wrong here?
-
That´s right, the crash occurs while loading the map. I tried to repair too and didn´t work.

I should have worded it better: the people did not disconnect from the server by themself, but they actually got disconnected wich gets shown as a message even after loading into a map after the mapchange. So we are indeed speaking about the same issues and we are actually planning on investigating and checking this as there seem to be quite a few people affected. With the different ways of installing and updating FH2 it is a bit difficult to track down currently what could be causing those problems.
Btw: regarding those CTDs: is it crashing when the loading is finished or when there is a certain percentage reached?
-
When a certain percentage is reached, though is not always the same percentage. Now it´s happening on Keren at 92%
-
@Skrim:
Thanks that is clear now
the CTD happens when it is almost fully loaded. The loading bar is on 3/4th of its way. It definately does not happen when you get the 'join' button, you get crashed out before that button appears.
Now also Battle of Keren I got crashed out of the game, after playing (without problems) one of the new maps?
-
Lebisey crashes at 87%
-
Cobra 86%
-
And if you run in windowed mode, you never get any error message?
-
I tried running on windowed mode without getting any message.
Bastogne crashes at 85%.
Not every map crashes. When I test the crashy maps on "Create Local" they do not crash.
-
Is there anything I could do to try sort this out? Right now I can only play less than half of the maps from the map pool. Basically I had to stop playing since the mod update came out... this really sucks.
-
According to this (http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=14013.msg190087#msg190087), your problem can be caused by custom textures on equipment that is being used on maps that crash your game. I know you are working on your map, and some other modding (you edited the Tiger tank for your Berlin project, right?) is there a chance you did modify something in your build, or maybe you are using some 3rd party addons, that prevents you from joining the server? Double check if there are any assets that may be shared between maps that CTD for you.
-
Alright, weird stuff are going on.
Thanks jan, the problem was related to that. Matt_Baker´s texture pack was the problem. I tried to uninstall it and repair it from the launcher but it did not work. So I manually deleted the folders "land" and "air" from the mod´s Objects/Vehicles/ path. After that I ran a repair in order to get those folders back in vanilla form and guess what...
1. The folders were not downloaded/repaired. They are just not there.
2. I can play normally! I can even play the maps online I used to CTD on.
3. Matt_Baker´s textures do not show in-game anymore.
The question is... How on earth is the game working at all. All the land and air vehicle files are missing!!! I deleted them myself! Where is the game taking all the vehicle information from? Those folders weigh like 3 GB. I don´t understand this.
-
You are talking about the unpacked objects folder now?
Those are only there because you extracted them yourself while setting up bf2editor.
Fh2 mod only have all these in .zip files.
If you have all stuff unpacked, the game will in certain conditions load the unpacked stuff before the packed stuff.
Solution: Make a copy of the fh2 folder which you use for your modding. Have the unpacked stuff and such there. Leave the other copy intact without anything extracted. Switch between the two by renaming them back and forth when modding/playing.
OR
Make a copy of your entire battlefield 2 folder and put it somewhere else. Use one copy for modding and one for playing. Also works.
-
I had completely forgotten I unpacked those folders for the editor. Problem solved. Thank you!
-
Glad to hear it helped, see you on the server! ;)
-
Ok removing the 'objects' folder did the trick also with me.
I have had installed the mat baker package, but it is uninstalled atm. However the updater shows it still, as being 'not installed', but still somehow it remembers.
I also installed the BF2editor.
I just started with the onject folder, and yes now it seems I can play all maps. Does this mean I cannot use BF editor to full potential anymore because the objects folder is now missing (I saved it for now somewhere else)?
Thanks a lot guys, I hope the problems stay away now :D
-
First of all, I want to thank everyone for your help. Maybe someone could stick a thread with the solution to this problem, a bunch of people have it.
StrumFlim, delete the "Objects" folder you saved somewhere else, it is messed up due to the new mod update. Unpack the Objects.zip files again just as you did when you setup bf2editor.
Tomorrow I will re-download the Matt_Baker´s texture pack and install it over the updated files. In theory it should work, as per Matt_Baker´s instructions (re-installing after a mod´s update).

Yes, but you shouldn’t use the same build for playing the game and using your Editor, to avoid issues like this in the first place. Check Stubbfan’s post above to find out how set up it correctly.
