OK, just quit after playing this for hours. First impression is: wow! Second impression is: oh man, I loved it so much when BF1942 came out!
This event brought back many sweet memories from back in the days when I was looking for a WWII flight simulator and ended up playing BF1942. Thank you all who contributed to making this happen!
Some pictures, click on them (twice) to see original size:
Guadalcanal, the very suspiciously looking gun (it's an 88 model) shoots the Jap tank
Guadalcanal, getting medals after death
Iwo Jima, rolling the volcanic countryside
Wake Island, getting the enemy in my sights
Now on the bugs I noticed. I'll start with the map I nopticed rthem on, this doesn't mean that it is map related per se, but since I didn't test everything on other maps, I'll do it this way.
Wake Island:
- planes crash above the sea, instead of in the sea. The sea level has an invisible layer over it, I guess.
- scope of th submarine is stretched: it needs adjusting for widescreen FH2 players.
- exiting the seat on landing craft kills you when the ship is moving.
Adak Island:
- 16p version: the OOB in the south, close to the southernmost flag is bigger than indicated on the map. You get the warning already north of it.
- 64p version: on the eastside of the map, you can clearly see where the sea "ends", it looks ugly.
- 64p version: in the US destroyer I could sail up to the Japanese carrier to destroy all planes and try and sink it. I suggest creating an OOB around the Japanese carrier.
Guadalcanal:
- repair didn't work. I heard something about it being disabled to prevent something with ships, but please try and figure something out because now everyone suffers from this "no repair" solution.
Iwo Jima:
- the turtle mines (at least those) have no 3D mine signs (the red skulls).
Didn't get to play Midway yet. I have to play more Japanese, too.
Good luck fixing the stuff and let's hope it gets to be an add-on to the mod one day. At least all naval stuff needs to be fixed for that, which is quite a huge task.
