Sorry I did not notice the post Lupin :) I find it interesting though that the bill got passed without the mandatory wording, but a new bill has it and they are trying to pass it. The most discusting thing about all this, is that us Americans are told all is great and this is a great thing by our nightly news.....

Nah man it's alright. You posted the whole thing while I just made brief mention of it. ;D

I dont think you read the worst part.

SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.
‘(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:

1‘(1) Attempting to influence legislation.

6‘(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.

1‘(3) Assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing.

‘(4) Impairing existing contracts for services or collective bargaining agreements.

2‘(5) Engaging in partisan political activities, or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to any public office.

2‘(6) Participating in, or endorsing, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation, or elected officials.

Unless someone provides some credible sources, I can tell you that what that email notice said is completely false.  Most email notices like that are false to begin with and are not a credible source.

The idea of getting the general public to commit themselves to doing community service work is something that should be addressed, in my opinion.  However, like I said in my previous post, the people would have to be given something worthwhile in compensation and it would have to remain strictly voluntary.

And like Tiemann was saying, such a plan would never work in the United States; therefore, the facts presented by the email notification are utter BS.

Naturally the wording in the bill is sugar coated, but don't let that fool you.

I could link to several ongoing discussions on other forums, but those forums are more.. "conspiracy" related and I wouldn't want to turn this thread into a "lol you're all tinfoil hat wearers" flame fest.

This is clearly involuntary servitude, which makes these youth camps against the law and the constitution. But I think they found a loop hole around that. You see, they can force you to do service for a crime, and if something is mandatory (like these camps) it would be a crime to refuse, and they can punish you by making you do it.

Just wondering, doesn't this assumption also apply on general conscription?

When it comes to the draft, I believe there's an amendment that says it's ok but I'm not quite sure.

Ah yes, I've known about this for a couple weeks. Right now it's pretty much all school aged kids, up to 21 that have to serve but the government is looking at making seniors, and then every citizen conscripted into this program. And their idea of community service as described in the bill isn't things like planting trees and picking up garbage, they want to use the children as free labor to fix up roads and renovate government buildings and things like that. One of the bills also describes standard issue uniforms and "political education" as part of the program.

While you are in this program, you are forbidden from doing anything involving politics, such as protesting, anything involving legislation, etc etc.

This is also against the 13th amendment of the constitution:
Quote
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

I have also heard reports of them wanting to make all adults serve 3 months a year of mandatory "community service".

They just won't give us a break.

Oh and I'm sorry if I made any glaring errors about the bill in my post. I haven't read about it for a while and I'm pretty tired right now.

Well, I've already been a member of The Rogue Forums for a while, but as Donutz said many FF'ers are showing up there. Though how many will stay has yet to bee seen.
GF was for general gaming (general topics and various games, plus it was the feedback area for the network sites such as bf2files.com) so they aren't the same.

I doubt many will, i wont anyways. I dont see the point of following 2 forums on the exact same subject.
Its a sad day, all the original BF1942 sites are gone now. :(

BF42.com, BFCentral, now BF1942Files.com.

Only PBF remains.
Ah BF42.com, that was the site I checked daily when bf1942 came out. Good memories.

Same here. I still miss that site.

I know I come on for the friends, I don't come onto the forum just to read stuff from other people that I have no connection. i actually care about you guys. I wanted to know what your first words for in that recent thread, it's not just about the validity of the posts, but also how entertaining they are to us. Fuzzy Bunny's old vehicle manuals had really no bearing on anything at all, but by god they were a joy to read. I liked when flyguy posted his spanish paper with requests for people to help him with it, I like that people can do things like that and discuss it. It's like getting together daily with your group of friends and talking about whatever comes to mind. I just want to be able to talk like we're at a bar, discussing whatever it may be, girls, tanks, recent changes to airplane manufactures, it doesn't matter. I just hope we can maintain that, that's what made FF so special.

Yes

The devs should remember, Offtopic isn't for them, its for the community.  They have their own internal forums, and the whole rest of the forums to remain clean.  But offtopic should still be a place to have aimless, but incredibly interesting discussion that go off in fun directions, debates, and places for Jummy to do random book reviews, stories from his past, and how lawyers in the south dress.  Those threads are what made the forum a great place, and those are what we need. Offtopic is not meant to be for the devs, but instead a place for the community to hang out, drink a beer, and have fun.  Sorry to say, but IRC is most definitely NOT the answer.

I agree completely.

Heh completely forgot about that post, must be because I got it a dozen times (email, on several forums, IRC etc.). Sorry.  :p

But it doesn't really contain much if anything regarding the survival of GF. So...

I'll just quote the highlights of what I said then..

Quote from n0e:
"Hey all. I know many of you have eagerly been awaiting any sort of news as to what is going on and what we plan to do for the future.

To those that don't know I, along with a tremendous amount of help from folks like Phenix, and Ronnie are making backups of all of the network sites and we plan on moving to a new network of fan sites that will be open soon. For legal reasons we may not be able to include the items such as reviews, potd's and other various bits of information on the sites. However, with the permission of the modders we will retain all of the files. Those who do not wish to continue having their files hosted on the new network need only contact me after the first of the sites are online. I'll see to it that they are promptly removed per your request. We will not hassle you about it or tell you to '***** off'. Just remember that we're restoring a database so please don't get upset after seeing them initially. We respect your copyrights.

There will be forums up and running sometime hopefully next week. When they are up I will provide a link here so you know where to go from then on. I certainly hope to see many familiar faces and even new ones. There will be a clean slate for those coming back as well. If you were banned for whatever reason, you are allowed to return and given a second chance.

The new network and forums will have one more thing that I'm sure will make everyone happy. There will be NO corporate involvement. Things will be run by people who actually play games for people who play games.

I'll have more news for everyone as it's available. I wish to thank everyone for their continued patience and I'm certainly cannot wait to have the good parts of FileFront return while just trimming out the bad.

Thanks!
Jeff 'n0e' Mills"
