Gaming / Re: Games like Generals
« on: 16-06-2012, 19:06:14 »
Thanks for the answers. 2 Things I am definately going to push is company of heroes and supreme commander. I have found out, you can buy it on steam but I didn't knew you only need one copy.

As for Generals, it took me a while but I managed to get the other guys to switch over to a different mod (shockwave) having some fun with it. But the way we play is buy waiting 10 min and then try to bash into each others base. Superior timing and production wins the day in this. Hopefully they can adapt to the style of play in CoH.

Gaming / Games like Generals

Hi All,

Me and 3 other buddies are playing generals zero hour LAN for the moment. But we are getting a bit sick of it and we are looking for alternatives. However the way we play these games is usually with a 10 min peace time because some of us are not really into frantic micro management.

Thus we are looking for an rts (even considering cossacks back to war) that is recent enough so it will run on windows 7 but not to new so that everybody can afford it. I know Supreme commander would be fit for this but some don't like the futuristic look of it.

Does anybody have a good suggestion?

Thanks

I have just one pet peeve in this discussion and that is the ability to snipe persons across the map. It may take some skill to pull it off, but once you get the hang of it you will do it systematically.

Ask yourself this:
When you are walking across the map in FH2, what do you fear the most when crossing a large open space? What is the most dangerous weapon you will face then? Its not machineguns, artillery or tanks, Its rifles, the ones that everybody is carrying.

There is a reason why people in war like to bring machineguns to a battle in real life. Because your chances of hitting a distant target at long range is far greater then using a rifle (and other reasons). This simple fact is completely absent in FH2. The machinegun is reduced to a situational weapon, best used in urban environments.

Is this effect something we really like to keep? Because if we like to keep up the pretense that this is a "realistic" game this is a major oversight.

I would like it to have AZERTY, but its a small sacrifice using QUERTY, also I don't mind having a 15.6 inch. Its big enough for me.

I just want to have a decent laptop for the next 2 years

(and want to play empire total war...)

I liked to think that i am pretty well versed in the techinical bit of choosing the best gaming laptop but after comparing prices and components, I still got confused about why this laptop cost more than the other.

Basically I am looking for a gaming laptop around the 1000-1200€ range around the netherlands, belgium & UK

At the moment my eye's are falling on the gaming laptop series of MEDION (nl)

MEDION® ERAZER® X6811 laptop (1599€ nl 999£ uk)

Intel® Core™ i7-740QM processor, Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 6GB RAM, 640GB HDD, 15.6" Full-HD LED Backlight Display, USB 3.0, Bluetooth®,  NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX460M DirectX® 11 graphics

I find it a bit weird how the price in the uk is so much lower than in Holland. The only difference between the machines is that the one in Holland has a 160G solid state harddrive extra (which i don't need)

This is the best I could find but the fact is that its gonna be a uk laptop with a uk adaptor (and I am used to the european ones), also querty keybord.

Does anyone have a better option for the same price?

Announcements / Re: Not a Step Backwards: FH2 Update

Very nice update, Haven't playing lately because i was frustrated by my sub standard pc.

There is one quetion that is burning on my lips: Did the defs got some of their models fromthe BGF mod? Because that would speed things up alot. Even if you have to do things over for quality sake.

Still hoping to see their tank system ingame.

I once thought op. Market garden was the next theater, but yer, if Belgium it is, I wonder if Holland looks anything like that... Hmmm

Not really Belgium and Holland have distinct different house styles, hell there are even differences between east and west Belgium, Flanders and Walloon. Althought the modern houses after world war began looking more like each other.

When i first heared about empire total war i was so psyched up that i pre ordered the game (which was the first and only time i did something like that) and was convinced that this would be a good game because i like rome total war so much.

Then i finally got the game and was immediately dissapointed by how damn heavy this game was for my pc. Than it got worse with all the bugs that were present.
I haven't played it for a while and i am waiting on getting a new pc for playing empire total war again.

So my question is, to the people who bought napoleon total war, is it any good? or do you say don't bother.
Also Napoleon is an expansion right?
