Well, since half of this doesn't interest me as a non-vBF2 player, I am happy to see that BF2 is getting support after all these years and that the hit detection is being fixed, as well as taking away the requirement to have the DVD/CD in the drive. Besides that though...I don't think DICE are ticking off the right boxes in regards to what the players want. Here is what I'm more concerned about:

No 'real' widescreen support. I don't mean cropping 4:3. The real aspect ratio of 16:9/16:10. The option to change it in graphics settings. And most importantly...no more stretched HUD. It's 2009, true the game was made a few years ago, but widescreen support should be the requirement of all games. 16:9 and 16:10 is becoming standard format. All this 'unfair advantage' stuff is just, well, bullshit really.

Fix the damn graphics flickering. This has been around for ages, and it does effect a decent majority of vBF2/modded BF2 players. If it's down to DICE, nVidia or ATi I don't know...but it needs fixing.

Dissapearing server info/server graphics needs a fix too.

Hit detection being sorted? Woot! And BF2142 got widescreen support, so I don't see why BF2 can't. Perhaps that's the unmentioned feature. I really wouldn't count on 128 players, fellas - they had them in the BF2 beta in 2005, but they found that servers simply couldn't handle it. I suspect the current server farms used for BF2 would not be able to handle a doubling of processing power or w/e would be required, and the netcode issues etc would probably still surface.

Does this mean I can use SHIFT to crouch yet??? Ive never understood why I cant..
YES THANK GOD! I found someone else out there who has the same issue as me! It drives me INSANE that I can't bind SHIFT to anything in the common controls, regardless if it's absent from the other control menus.
i use shift to crounch in every game including BF2/fh2
seems like you are doing something wrong here
i can bind any key to any feature

Left shift? Mine wont..says its like..conflicting with something in general controls...which it isnt. Done that to me since day 1..

not sure since i havent changed my controls for ages but i might have  manually chnaged the settings in the *.con files since changing them in them in bf2 is a pain in the ass.

also you could try to use one of those completely blank bf2 configs and then you will have to set every command ingame (or manually) but if it is completely blank you wont have any conflicts. they are outhere somewhere but i havent found them yet

Yep, it's a pain in the ass. I too use left shift for crouching but had also some problems to configure it. If I remember right, it conflicted with the helicopter key settings in the config file despite the fact that you can't change them in-game. I think I deleted the entry "left shift" in the config file and was then able to reassign left shift in-game.

For fixing keybinds.
Go to  \My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Controls.con

I will assume you have everything default installed and don't have multiple BF2 Accounts:

My control.con looks like this:

ControlMap.create InfantryPlayerInputControlMap
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFKeyboard IDKey_D IDKey_A 0
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFKeyboard IDKey_W IDKey_S 0
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_PIFire IDFMouse IDButton_0 0 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIAction IDFKeyboard IDKey_Space 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIAltSprint IDFKeyboard IDKey_W 1000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PISprint IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftShift 0 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_1 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_2 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect3 IDFKeyboard IDKey_3 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect4 IDFKeyboard IDKey_4 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect5 IDFKeyboard IDKey_5 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect6 IDFKeyboard IDKey_6 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect7 IDFKeyboard IDKey_7 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect8 IDFKeyboard IDKey_8 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_9 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F1 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F2 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect3 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F3 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect4 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F4 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect5 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F5 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect6 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F6 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect7 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F7 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect8 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F8 10000 0
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_PIAltFire IDFMouse IDButton_2 0 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIDrop IDFKeyboard IDKey_G 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PILie IDFKeyboard IDKey_Z 0 0
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_PICrouch IDFMouse IDButton_1 0 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICameraMode1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F9 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICameraMode2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F10 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICameraMode3 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F11 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICameraMode4 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F12 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIToggleWeapon IDFKeyboard IDKey_F 10000 0
ControlMap.mouseSensitivity 1.6

The text in bold is the part where you allocate the key to crouch. I use the right mouse button for crouching.

Before making a change to the control.con, make sure you back it up somewhere.

Agreed, its one of the things that puts me off playing FH2.

sorta off topic, but I was privvy to some announcements by the company "On Live" They are hoping to bring back the support for 128 player games maybe not for BF2 as the netcode filters through like sucking shit through a tramps sock, - but, they intend to create an uber-uber server-service, you buy the game from them, you connect to their service and no matter what PC settings you have, you see the game in awesome detail.  Sounds too good to be true, but their investment is through the roof at the moment, so they must be doing something right.

It's about BF2 not FH2 thus making me open it in OT.

Actually tanked, if you start FH2 with the FH2.exe you won't get those Gfx errors!
