Announcements / FORGOTTEN HOPE 2.55 RELEASE
« on: 26-02-2019, 18:02:31 »
Todays news:

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

We have prepared a new release of Forgotten Hope 2 with a few small technical updates.

The ForgottenHope2.exe has been updated to fix the issue where a MG might fire when you try to zoom.
The Launcher has been updated with new discord links.
The BF2 Language Changer should now also set the correct keyboard layout.

Otherwise there have been no content related changes, so the update size is just a few Megabytes. Servers do not need to update.

FH 2.55 will be released around noon on the 28th of february 2019.

there are some changes on german keyboard. e.g. i'm pressing "?" and it comes "_" (ingame chat). Can I change this by some config settings?
Thanks in advance.

Could it be that your keyboard in windows was set to US layout? I tried changing the locale in registry to all sorts of things and it always used my German keyboard correct. Only after I changed to US layout in windows, I saw your problems.

In order to prevent any further confusion about this, the error message is now "Couldn't connect to gamespy backend on server." :)

Hello fellow FH players out there.

Recent discussion on Discord made us realize that our scoring system is not rewarding the really important gameplay aspects enough.

Usually a squad leader is trying to get his squad close to enemy flags, but then goes into hiding, in order to allow all his squad mates to spawn close to it and capture it quickly. Mostly though this means the squad leader ends up with a low score on the scoreboard, even though his actions might have been the deciding factor in a battle.

This lead us to implement a change in scoring which gives the squad leader a share of the all points his squad mates earn. For this test the share is set to be 25% and it is counted for all points a player can earn, so not just kills or flag captures, but even repairs, rearms and minus scores for team killing and team damage. However the share is only counted if the squad mate scoring points is actually anywhere near the squad leader, to promote only squads sticking together instead of everyone running around alone in some random direction.

We hope that this change will put the squad leaders leading their squads into battles to the top of the score board, instead of those players who ay be able to use things like tanks or artillery effectively, but not necessarily to the benefit of the team. It should also be an incentive to have more squads created.

The public cmp server #1 is already running the script, so we are looking forward to see a populated server over the weekend.

Please post your comments here after you gave it a try!

It´s Operation Aberdeen. It was removed from the mod at some point, since it urgently needed balance updates due to changed tank performance, but no one wanted to do it back then.

Each hit is an individual entry with date and time and it goes back a few years. So yes, something like "daily total" over the last few years should be possible.
But first I need to find a proper software for such evaluations.

My tip would be to use the minimap as much as possible. You can see there if people from your own team are anywhere in front of you or not (make sure to zoom out with N key). Only shoot if you are sure there are no friendlies in the direction you want to fire. Perhaps go lone wolf and avoid the crowded flagzones, instead secure the flanks where no team mates are.

Otherwise the best tip so far is to join a good squad that sticks together and follow them. If you don´t find a good squad, just randomly chose a player that looks like he knows what he is doing and follow him and only shoot when he does.

You will learn the subtle differences of the soldier silhouettes, uniform colors and headgear over time.

The FH2 webserver logs each hit to the BF2 ingame ad image, so we can get some idea of the numbers of players we have, or at least how often FH2 has been started.

These are the stats for the last 16 days, from [10/Jun/2018:06:49:22 +0000] until [26/Jun/2018:12:28:57 +0000]

Total number of image requests during this time is 11329. This means FH2 has been started this often by all players combined, even those who dont play online. It´s about 687 FH2 starts per day.

According to the users languague settings, the game looks for different images. Here you see the country and number of requests.

image_english    8588
image_German    916
image_Spanish   375
image_Polish   336
image_French   265
image_Russian   256
image_Chinese   188
image_Italian   107
image_Swedish   102
image_Dutch   100
image_Japanese 39
image_Korean   32
image_Thai   22

Though we dont know if it was just one player starting the game hundred times, or a hundred players each starting it once, it still gives us a rough idea of the interest in FH2.

Suggestions / Re: The Minor Suggestions Thread

I would like to see more destroy-able buildings.
BattleGrounds Frontline, a BF2 mod, uses a lot of them.  There is a map where you can destroy almost all the houses in the village.  I think most people's computers can handle that nowadays.
What about adding chairs, tables, or boxes that can be moved in houses.  I figure they can serve at least two purposes, one being able to use the item to see out of some windows that are just to high.  A second purpose would be to use the items to build a "wall" to hide a squad leader behind (of course a well placed grenade would blow that plan to pieces lol)
The problem with such things is that we would need to add a lot more network objects to our maps and the BF2 engine does not like that. It sucks if only some things (barrels, boards, tables, chairs) are movable or destructible and others are not.
We have a few such gimmicks on some maps. Purple heart lane has a tin can with networked physics, so you can move it around by shooting it.

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Seeding the Files
« on: 18-06-2018, 11:06:39 »
I guess the problem is that utorrent usually creates a subfolder from the torrent name in the folder you selected as download location. So if you tell it to download to c:\games\bf2\ it will actually download the files to c:\games\bf2\fh2-client-3.4.311\ . You need to disable the subfolder creation somehow when adding the torrent file.

Your error indicates that your user.config file must be corrupted somehow.
"FH2CommunityUpdater.Properties.Settings.get_firstRun()"  is accessing the config file, everything after that is beyond our control.

Have you even downloaded FH2 yet? or does the error appear before the download?

please try the following:
click start and type
then press enter. now type
dir "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Forgotten_Hope"
press enter again and show us the result here

Maybe the launchers config file is defect for some reason. If you delete it, it should create a new one without errors.

So delete the following folder manually: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Forgotten_Hope
(Note: you may need to activate "show hidden files and folders" in windows to find it)

or open the commandline and run the following command:
rmdir /S /Q "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Forgotten_Hope"

Which OS do you use to play FH2?

No, sadly we do not have bot support for the new maps yet.
