On this day, four score and thirteen summers ago, in Compiegne, Imperial Germany signed the unconditional surrender to the forces of Entente, officially ending the 4 year long Great War.

World War 1 cost us nearly 10 million killed, and at least 20 million wounded and missing.
Not to mention the Flu of 1918 which took another 20 million lives.

In hope that we have learned from the last 100 years of wars, let's remember them, the lost generation

"Did you really believe them when they told you "The Cause?"
Did you really believe that this war would end wars? "

I wouldn't call Compiegne "close to Versailles"...

1918: Compiegne, armistice.
1919: Versailles, treaty.

Often confused. ;)

copy past of another post on another forum(by me)

Take the moment to listen to the last post, and remeber those

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4NtSqZcT_4

my country saw the heaviest battles and the most lives lost in WW1. Today, nobody gives a damn about WW1, and those millions of men who died for us. I do remeber them, i do give a damn.

I thank you, the british, french, australian, Indian, Canadian, newfoundland, new zealand, south african, united states, italian, russian, portugese, brazillian and many more men who liberated my country. I thank you Belgian troops, who defended my country with there blood and lives so that we could live in freedom today.

And i do not hate you, Germans, for World war 1. You people where just regular soldiers, like anyone else, sended out because some fat greedy rich royalties and other high in command bastards, disagreed on something.
May you all rest peacefully in the Belgian soil.

Do not be like anyone else who does not give a damn about this day. Be a man of honour, and respect those 22,477,500 allied soldiers who got killed, wounded or missing in WW1. And remeber those 16,403,000 axis soldiers, who got killed, wounded or missing in action. As they are not be blamed whatsoever for this huge tragic event.

Lest we forget

Remember the fallen. I've been posting stories about soldiers from WW1, hourly on our FSCG on facebook. Next one will be a short paragraph or two about Combat engineers.

I strongly disagree. The fact that the England football team wanted to play today with poppies on their shirts, to honour the dead of WWI, should say enough.

Not really; they will always be killing and war as long as humanity exist; war it's part of humanity.

Repost from my facebook:

Take the day to thank a vet and remember those who served and gave their lives for their country, family, and the man next to them.
