General Discussion / Forgotten Honor Mod Night
« on: 20-05-2016, 07:05:14 »

Forgotten Honor Mod Night
In eager anticipation of Forgotten Honor's upcoming Bane of Barbarossa tournament, we've decided to pass the time by shooting each others brains out this upcoming Sunday night before being locked in bitter fight between Soviets and Germans for two whole months. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and join, officially we begin at 18:00 UTC but we expect the night to last for many hours.

Mod Download
You can download our custom mod for Forgotten Hope 1 here.

Where?
It's planned that we will use the Forgotten Honor server (94.23.37.220:14567) for the event, however we do have a backup at the ready in case that doesn't work out. You can keep up to date with any changes in the plans here.

FH 0.7 Help / Support / Windowed Fullscreen BF1942
« on: 19-08-2015, 07:08:09 »
About 2 years ago I was playing BF1942 on Windows XP. I set it to run in windowed mode, then after loading into the game I would Alt+Enter to go to fullscreen and for whatever reason that made tabbing out very seamless.

A year later I finally fixed my Windows 7 PC, only that method no longer worked. As a workaround I set to windowed again and used a AHK script to adjust the size and position of the window to be fullscreen, and that worked well.

Now, about 2 weeks ago when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, neither of the two work for me. I can't play normal fullscreen because then any time I tab out, which I do as often as every 3-4 minutes, takes far too long because the monitor/game keeps adjust resolutions and to add to that I usually can rarely go back into the game or it will CTD after awhile.

Any solutions welcome.

Forgotten Honor is proud to present our next and fourth campaign for Project Reality, with signups opening exactly two years after our first. Since EA and DICE no longer support Battlefield 2, the Project Reality team made PR:BF2 a standalone game. No longer is a installation of Battlefield 2 required, it is completely free to play.

Anyone have a clue as to what to do about this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsPYUCxIMlo

Not limited to FH2, it happened in PR the next night as well. In the particular instance that I filmed, it was like that for at least 15 minutes with no change or even loss of connection. Almost two weeks before it happened, everything was sort of perfect but even then I had a movement lag despite low ping.

I've not yet tried to replicate it and check my network, but I doubt that is the issue since it seems limited to BF2, but if it were the problem there's nothing that could be done about that.

FH2 Help / Support / New copy of BF2, trouble installing
« on: 04-01-2015, 02:01:47 »
Earlier today I got my hands on a copy of BF2 complete collection, brand new, wrapped and sealed, etc. I have for the past several hours tried to install it to no avail.

My first problem is that my PC won't even read the disc, just makes a few noises for half a minute before finally giving up. This is only for this disc, all others work perfectly fine. At the same time it can be read by my WinXP laptop, and my WinVista notebook, I've yet to test with my Win7 laptop, Windows 7 being what I currently have.

Second problem, being that I was able to get it to read just fine on the other computers, I made an ISO from the disc to port over to the desktop PC. I should first mention that all the disc files were there as they should be, so far nothing really points to a problem with my copy. Autorun.exe, working ok at first, I select the language, I get to the menu, and I press Install. The BF2 splash screen shows up, and then it's gone, nothing after that, no installation processes running in the background, nothing. That didn't work so this next time I ran setup.exe from the disc (ISO), starting install shield wizard, and then bam, setup.exe has stopped working. I had hoped this dirty workaround would work but not really, I could screw around extracting cab files but I'll save that for last.

Third problem, or rather hypothetical problem/solution, is this: Could I perhaps attempt to install on one of my other computers and manually move the installed files over to this one? I might end up with missing registry files in this case, which has me asking, is there any precautions I should be taking? I've done it just fine with other EA games in the past which wouldn't install on this PC but would on others, but I'm a tad over-cautious considering that I just bought this three days ago. So far I've only tested reading the disc, I'll attempt to install on the other PC soon and if that fails then it's not on my end.

Finally just to clarify, this is what my copy looks like:

Appreciate all the help. In a few days it will probably be exactly an entire year since I last played BF2/FH2.

Gaming / FRAPS and BF2 Issue
« on: 08-11-2013, 00:11:12 »
Copy/paste from another forum:
Quote
I've recently gotten back into filming videos with FRAPS, and I want to do that for BF2 but I'm just having some trouble. No matter what I try it just doesn't seem to detect BF2 or any mods, be it PR, FH2, etc. And yes it does work fine for other games, just not BF2. The FPS counter does not show up, no screenshots taken when the button is pressed, no videos, nothing. I've tried the obvious things such as compatibility modes, running FRAPS after BF2, checking the keys, and reinstalling DirectX 9.0. But still it does not work, I don't really know why.

 Currently using Windows 7 64bit, 8192MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 210, Intel i5-2320 3.00GHz.
All help is appreciated.
So yeah, I need to get this fixed and it's becoming more and more urgent by the day.

Off-Topic / Unusual German Flag
« on: 13-10-2013, 05:10:10 »
I have an old German flag that someone gave me a long time ago, I was wondering if anyone would know more about it, I know it's not  made before 1980. Now it might not seem hard to find but I've yet to see one like mine as far as the Bundesadler goes.

The most noticeable difference from most of my finds is that the shield has a white border outside the thin black one, a centimeter wide. The eagle itself has curved claws, it's feet aren't as angular. The beak is touched by the top and bottom of the tongue, and the bottom of the tail is flat with the small triangle shape, not like most I've seen where it's curved with that triangle. There isn't really an eye, it's more like a thin white slit with no pupil. The top tips of the wings are also less elegant than the examples I've seen.

The last time I did research on this I read that it was against German law to have such a flag in ones personal possession, which leads me to a theory this may be a modified version for commercial use of the sort. If it helps though, the person I got it from was an officer in the German military. I'll upload a photo within a week, as soon as possible.

Is there any way to get a hold of older versions of FH2? As far back as the very first release?

FH2 Help / Support / Unexplainable FPS drop
« on: 30-08-2013, 03:08:45 »
For a few months now I've had a very annoying problem playing FH2, the FPS drops to about 3 when I play at 1280x1024 (75hz) resolution which I usually play on with at least 30 FPS. I've been playing at 1024x768 to get around this and even then I get 10 FPS. You'd think it would have something to do with a driver or windows automatic update, but the thing is it started whilst playing the game, went back to normal after an hour, and then messed up again. So far I've tried clearing shaders, deleting profiles, reinstalling BF2 and FH2, system restore point, messed with NVIDIA settings, made sure the PC's internal parts are ok, and so on. What's even stranger is that Battlefield 2 and several mods work perfectly normal.

Some system specs, although I doubt they're relevant:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium  (6.1.7601)
Architecture: 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 210 driver version 9.18.13.1407 (314.07)
Display Memory: 1024 MB
Memory: 8192 MB
Page File: 7.98 GB
.NET Framework: 4.0
Motherboard: MSI H61M-P25 (MS-7680)

So this is why I haven't played much FH2 recently. I can solve most of my technical issues myself, but this one has got me. It's painful to play at such a low resolution and with poor FPS, not sure I can put up with it much longer.

Let's be honest here, the forum needs a news discussion thread otherwise it'll just end up where it doesn't really belong and spawn dozens of dedicated threads. Local, global, politics, conflicts, science, gardening, economics, whatever.
