Its a logistics thing.
While some may do the stick-on crosshair. It only works sometimes.
Your crosshair doesn't remain perfectly accurate all the time, so part of that time, that fake crosshair won't work because you are most likely the type of person who also bunny-hops and dolphin-dives and so your crosshair hasn't settled.
That's called Karma.
The logistics part of it is that MOST people don't do that, so they play as intended.
The odd nut doesn't break the gameplay basically.
Yes Arberdeen was the only map removed sometime ago because it was like Operation Battleaxe.
Fun for a few, a pain for most (you could tank sniper almost all the way into the enemy base and there was almost nowhere to hide), and fugly for all.
The issue it suffered had to do with the earlier notion, like real WWII tank combat, that tanks will charge in hell for leather against enemy positions to take them.
In reality that got you slaughtered, and people begun playing their tanks like fat girls trying to get on to the dance for the next dance -- Slow, then backing off and trying again, then working their way around -- Also like WWII.
Some maps could survive the change in gameplay -- Arberdeen... couldn't.
Our devs have a standard I seldom see in an Independent mod where everything goes.
It's why controversial as that decision might be for some. I support it totally.
The maps that people DO complain about -- Maps like El Alamein and Sidi Rezegh, can be played nicely with tactics such as firing smoke arty, firing a barrage at defense positions to coincide with the attack or capping a different flag and flanking.
Something Aberdeen cannot.
