General Discussion / Strange observation
« on: 29-04-2012, 18:04:29 »
What is wrong with this community?

Yes,  I said what is wrong.

Why would I ever ask such a question?

It seems as though this engine has been thrown by the wayside by millions. I have done a quick bit of research into this.

So far we have in excess of 3.5 million copies sold and as of late under my somewhat restricted observation (please, I welcome someone's contradiction to this) a total of 100-200 people online at any one time.

Why? This modification of this engine is incredible. I would go so far as to say perhaps the best modification of any game I have experienced so far going back 15+ years (anyone remember mods of Myth, Wolfenstein, and Quake?). Yes I am comparing this mod to historical modifications because I think it is just that historical.

Here is my issue.

Monopoly and monopoly under unjust governance. The current servers are being run by individuals who have a monopoly under their own thinking. Yes we have a right to join whatever server we feel is right but in general, there are a couple of servers who have imprinted on the community their personal, non-print beliefs.

Whoa, what did I say?

What I am talking about are the few servers with players that fit the 32+ player capacity at any reasonable time. Those servers seem to push their set of rules on some people and relax them at other times on others. You either uphold them for all in a mannyer that is unbiased or shut the whole system down period.

I am not going to make this about a certain server. They should know who they are. The ones who let a single player disrupt another players game to the point of making the game not a game but a session of anything but a game. These servers that do not look beyond what is happening to a single players experience but reserve their personal judgement and not the governing rules under which the server operates.

I understand that there are individuals who feel that they are more important than the other 63 people playing on the server and that they feel that they can do whatever they want. The fundamental server rules are in place and are superceded by common sense that a person is playing alongside a team and the team's goal is to win.

No, you do not have the right to TK a person running for the KT if you feel you are better.
No, you do not have the right to force a person from an artillery position because you think they are not as good as you feel they should be.
No, you do not have the right to TK a person waiting for the sniper kit because you want it.
Tking at will and covering it with a sorry allows some to get away with it and admins seem to be ok with it.

I apologize for thos ramble but I had to say something. With the way admins are using personal judgement on feelings and not rules. There is an issue where a person has to make recording and volumes of screen shots to cover their perverbial ass in every situation. I am telling every player here that it is a wise decision to screen shot every situation they run into. To  keep a record of every problem that comes up.

Why would I say this? With a total of 2-3 servers available, you have a great chance to lose your ability to access this game based on the say-so of one individual and the whims of an admin and how their day goes.

Not the idea the developers had.

FH2 Help / Support / Thanks but it's time to surrender...
« on: 12-08-2010, 21:08:45 »
I would like to say thanks to the dev team for providing a great mod.

Since the 1.5 Update for BF2 my game is now nonfunctional and despite scouring the net for a fix, there seems to be none available. The game crashes immediately to desktop when joining any server. This is not a Forgotten Hope issue but more of an EA created problem.

So my point is. I have uninstalled the game because it's just taking up GIGS of space 10+ from what I can tell.

Again, thanks fellas. I have enjoyed not just the game but the art and creativity that went into it.

Cheers,

Steve

Like the title states. I have installed BF2 then I updated with 1.41 and then 1.50 and I can no longer play online. I haven't installed FH2 because I wanted to eliminate it as the cause of the problem.

I have searched online for help with this 1.50 CTD issue and there seems to be no solution beyond a 1.41 fix with what appears to be an altered exe file. If the game never worked on my system then I would know that it wasn't my setup but it has with 1.41. It seems that there is some kind of issue with the update and seeing that this is now a defunct game, the possibility of a fix being made available is both slim and none.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying Darkest Hour with it's exceptional 40-50 tanker battles.

Thanks FH group, it was fun while it lasted. Too bad EA/Dice had to fuck it up for some of us.

FH2 Help / Support / FH 2.2 CTD joining server
« on: 07-09-2009, 21:09:02 »
Like the title says. The game crashes when you click on a server and join. The bug report comes up right away.

What the hell? Will this game ever shed it's CTD nature?

Stats.

AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+
3gigs ram
500gig 7200rpm Sata
Radeon 4870 512meg
XP w/ sp2
Fresh install of BF2
Patched to 1.41 then patched to 1.5 (note that no where does it say that you are required to patch 1.41 first)
Install of FH2.2
Single player works, Multiplayer works if you like looking at your desktop.
Punkbuster updated using the tool on the PB site.

Again, click on join server and poof instant crash.

How many people can say that a mod and game engine update are LARGER than a DVD?

I was going to download bf1.5 and burn all 3 files off my system to a DVD (DVD5) but it's not possible. =X
