Bren Gun
« on: 15-04-2010, 00:04:09 »
How do we all use the bren gun? Shoot it in semi-auto or full-auto? Use it as a close range weapon or long range weapon?

To me, the bren gun is an excellent weapon. On semi-auto it fires just as accurate and deadly as a regular bolt action rifle, while shooting in a much faster speed. At close range it can shoot like a SMG on full auto without ironsighting, although it's much more difficult to hit your targets.

The only downside about the gun is that you have no pistol or grenades as backup, with the machinegun being your only weapon.

What does everybody else think about it? It also seems like the weapon is not used that often. Most people prefer the rifle and thompson over the bren gun.

Bren sucks. In 2.2 Bren and BAR were godlike weapons and I used to use them a lot. In 2.25 BAR is probably somewhere where it should be with its accuracy, but Bren just sucks because those sights made it too hard to hit someone. Thompson is a sniper rifle in comparison with it to be honest. :P

But things should get better with 2.26 :)

2.26 bren is now useful again.  Also, yes the kit does have a webley.

Apparently he doesn't count revolvers as pistols, but revolvers. But IIRC the lumberjack canadian bren kit has the Hi-power.

Yeah sorry my mistake. I got it mixed up with the smoke grenade that comes with the pick-up kits from the Bren ;D

Will the BAR be useful in 2.26 again, along with the MG34 and MG42?

Honestly I think the only downside after 2.25 is that it's much less accurate in automatic mode when suppressing a squad. But the semi-automatic mode seems to be the same.

Also, part of the reason its not used much is because it has a very limited kit allotment :P

I was a constant brengunner from the beginning of FH2 up to 2.2

After that, it became useless. The only way you could use it, was with Semi auto firing.

I really hope it is back the way it was, or at least improved alot

In 2.25 bren can be used as automatic rifle, just take your time between shots and frags will follow. In 2.26 though, the bren will be what was always meant to be - ugly, mean, jerry killin' machine.

It's the sights that I hate on bren. On longer ranges it's fine, but on medium range, it starts to block too much view and when shooting full auto, I loose my target almost always. And did devs do something to its accurasy on hip firing? It just feels, it doesn't work as well anymore for rambo bren firing.
