Importing BF42 Heightmap to BF2
« on: 28-07-2009, 19:07:36 »
Does anyone know if there is any way to port over a bf42 map editor, to the new bf2 editor?

I'd been working for some time on a map for 42, and if possible I'd like to finish it for bf2/fh2, just wondering if there was an easy way to import at least the terrain so I don't have to start all over.

BGF heightmap utility:
http://www.bf-games.net/index.php?action=download_details&new=1&downloadid=1793 Use the first download link, second one is down.
With the file comes a readme, which should explain the use of this tool. Or use this link: http://forum.opkmod.com/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=7407

Thanks toddel  ;D

I only ask the following question, because I'm pulling a double at work today and cant download the files posted above to look at them myself.

Is the conversion from bf42 to bf2 a 1:1 on the scale?  For instance is one unit on bf2 the same as 1 unit in the old editor?  Or am I going to find my map being imported at half scale?

bf42 uses x4 scale and bf2 uses x2, therefore you must upscale the heightmap, a 512x512 size heightmap must be 1025x1025 to keep the scale. Scale 4 exists in bf2editor but isnt supported properly so i recomend to avoid it.

sure?  ??? I thought the terraingrids would be moved then. you need to move your 1024 square somewhere within the 1025 box, dont you think it matters where it is?
