Um, and Helm's Deep as gavrant mentioned defeated in "half an hour" took tens of thousands of Uruk-Hai, plus the gunpowder filled mines that blew up the wall, and still it took until dawn to reach the keep.

Plus, y'know, it's fiction.

At one point Matthos, son of Davos, mentioned balance of forces as "five to one". Was it "three to one" or "four to one" after wildfire, it still doesn't sound like "King's Landing had barely any defenders". Also, why there were no measures to strengthen the gate, build barricades or something?

But it seems I'm becoming a little bit nitpicky...

Anyway, I just read synopsis of the battle as it's described in the book and it feels to me... don't know how to call it... more logical? It's time to put reading of the books on my To Do list.

Without the combined armies of Highgarden and Casterly Rock King's Landing would have still fallen to Stannis, Tyrion managed to delay Stannis long enough for his father to arrive.

Aw, damn. Just spent about an hour reading the wikis etc. about all the houses and stuff. I'm pretty hooked and might have to get the books after all.

Average watchers (live) are still rising and the goverment of northen ireland spended 6.5 million funding the show, wich in turn revenued 45 million for northen ireland. Tourism is also boosting because of the series, and GoT will probaly recieve more funding(thus better battles!)

And i do not mind that people discuss books vs series. But i hate the crusade Book fanboys are currently doing by posting spoilers of characters everywhere

Great episode.
Glad they didn't change scene to some other people. it would have been so anticlimatic.

Still, i think they struggled to pull it off.

Battle was big and bad, but I could see they expected it to be epic, but couldn't quite make it so.

Also, felt the insta-glib could have been actually more graphic if cuts were less that. I mean a brutal cut that didn't actually slice a man completely in half or a hack to the leg that simply cut half-way through would better represent, IMO.

I actually had tears in my ears from the music and unfolding action. I really never knew I had emotional stock in the characters, especially Tyrion, until now.

For those who want to get more insight into the ASOIAF-lore, here´s GRRMs "The Hedgeknight" to read. It´s set around 100 years before the events of AGoT, so it should be relatively spoiler-free.
it should be even interesting for those who haven´t read the books, and maybe it´ll convince some to start reading the series. Not that there are any real reasons not to do this. ;)
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

Oh I'll wait until it's dark(ish, it's summer after all) and get a few beers as company.
It's half naked people on boats. That's all.
Here in Finland we call that "summer".
