- Jon Snow's story starts to follow the book once again. Good.
- Rattleshirt looked really cool.

- No "valar murghulis", no coin, no Jaqen H'ghar changing his face.
- No Tyrion's chain.

Lightning, Thorondor, guess the title of the last episode.

Valar Morghulis.
I guess we haven´t seen Jaqen for the last time.

Anyway, I really liked the episode. Rattleshirt is cool as f*ck with his bone-armour, I liked how they managed to get Quorin in again, Joffrey was absolutely laughable, Tyrions and Varys´ conversation was nice aswell and I already like seeing Brienne and Jaime together.

I´m absolutely looking forward to see next episode. On the other hand it´s rather sad that we have to wait another year for the next season. Therefore I´m starting to re-read ASOIAF. I hope that´ll help me pass some time.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

Maybe it's just the 2½ rum'n'cokes I had during this episode, but it seems to get better & better. Hell this one didn't have more than a bit of side boob in it!

The more I read this thread the less I want to read the books. Almost every movie/show made from a book I've seen so far has either skipped most of the book (Rum Diary) or copied it so nothing is a surprise (H2G2 tv-series) so I'd like to keep the suspense alive on this one.

Like this grand battle of Stark vs Lanister, if this was any other TV-series I'd already know the Starks would win, but here I have no idea. And I'd like to keep it that way.

Then again, there must be a shit-ton of stuff I'm missing as I've never read the books. Much like in the H2G2 movie (which I thought was great up until the last two minutes of it) the first half of the story was directly from the books, and the second half was new, but it was constantly peppered to references to the books. I was loving it all the way until the happy ending & Marvin saying "it's at the OTHER end of the universe" and the same might happen here too.

Then again I've heard the books aren't exactly easy reading, so I'll pass and read something else.
It's half naked people on boats. That's all.

Sorry guys, call me an unbeliever, a heretic or a witch, but the second season has too much talking to my taste. They talk and recollect past and exchange threats and glares and talk again, and it prevents something from happening. I think all events of 8 episodes could be easily packed in 4 episodes, with each episode focused on fewer plot lines.

The first season had something more to it so far, I agree. Nevertheless the second season still has a very high standard.

my way of viewing things like GoT is simple

i first watch the series, and i then read the books. And yes i know HBO skipped things from the books, but they are tied up with there 50 minute broadcasting limit. In wich HBO pulled off a clever move for dividing books into 2 seasons so it seems.

-i am fairly sure that if they took porn off the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called bring back the porn "Perry cox, Scrubs.

It strikes me that travelling is rather swift for others, zoom! Theon especially. Yet Rob and Stannis take AGES to get anywhere. Where did the Red Witch and the demon go? Where the hell is Little Finger? Bit disappointed the Stark boys were still alive, but it's ok ;)

Grande series, pretty much everything out there pales in comparison. But a bit... stale at the moment. I.e.: I went to make coffee when she finally jumped her king of the North. That was the longest intro to sex I have ever heard. I'm sure Rob also doesn't remember it all. Yeah, yeah, blabski blabski, come here you!

I guess I prefer Wildlings 8)

Then the next series would make no sense whatsoever, or they would have to make some radical changes. They can barely explain everything as it is now.

Yeah...the thing is A Song of Ice and Fire is primarily about the characters; how events are set up by people, and how they impact people. All of the talking is the mortar that holds together the bricks of major events. Without the talking and slow bits the show would be a shakey wobley heap of stones that couldnt hold up to curious children let alone Dragonfire.

Why has my well-constructed metaphor gone rambling about Dragons? Because a few episodes ago some of the characters were talking about Harrenhall (Where Arya and Tywin are) once holding the title of impenetrable, until the Targaryens melted the towers and shattered the walls with Dragons. This gives you some history, enhances the scenery and tone of the location, and builds the reader/viewer's respect for the power of these creatures.

Several times Littlefinger and Catelyn's childhood together is mentioned, alluded to, and brought up. What happened back then and the way they talk about it makes these characters into people. Then in later scenes, confrontations and arguments make more sense when you understand some of the thoughts that must be going through their minds.

The things people talk about make the events that are happening, or will happen way down the road, much more significant.

I don't mind talking and slow bits per se, but I think the second season has too much talking, which states obvious things or tries to expand minor characters while we have 25 characters in 'Main cast' section for the season. Take last episode for example:
- Daenerys' "I don't leave my dragons" is quite predictable.
- Tyrion's "I love this game" chat with Varys, as if it wasn't clear before. Joffrey's overconfidence is not surprising too.
- The Onion Knight story doesn't add much. Overall, whole Stannis Baratheon plot line looks somewhat secondary, only as annoyance for King's Landing.
- Last but not least - "the longest intro to sex" as Gezoes called it. IMHO Robb's love story feels bogged and cliched, an attempt to attract female audience.

As a result, I have a feeling that one third (one half?) of 50 minutes is wasted.

I really cant say anything more that wouldnt spoil something or another. As it is HBO leaves out and blows through a lot of dialog and content and events just so they can get to the VITAL stuff every season. Trust the ones who have read the books, it's worth it to enjoy and take in every moment.

Robb wasn't a POV character in the book. The only thing the reader learned about Robb's campaign in the west was news and rumours in other people's chapters. Like all of the scenes completely made up by HBO, it just doesn't seem to fit. (Interesting to see that people who have not read the books seem to agree.) I guess they wanted to show more Robb and the war in the west, but I would probably have shown Greatjon Umber capturing the goldmines of Castamere instead... :P

Draenerys becomes less and less likeable imo. Somehow that part of the series is not interesting at all and she comes off like a whiney bitch or even her brother ;). The rest is very good though.
