Title: Walkarounds thread
Post by: Taranov on 09-08-2009, 11:08:49: Old forum members remember thread about museums on the GamingForums. Now we are start thread about walkarounds.

What you can post here:
- Walkaround of any weapon, vehicle, aircraft, ship, uniform, fortifications, stowage items (gas cans, jacks etc) etc.

For what:
- Help to FH team;
- Help to another teams who made historical mods;
- Help to peoples who have interests to history;
- Help to scale modellers;
- Another peoples.

Where you can made walkarounds:
- Any museum near you ;D ;
- Your personal collection.

Where you can upload your walkarounds:
- Images hosting sites, like http://photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com), http://www.webshots.com (http://www.webshots.com), http://imageshack.us (http://imageshack.us) http://smugmug.com (http://smugmug.com), http://www.flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com) and another. More simple uploading procedure, but with images lost risk in future;
- Special walkaround pages like http://www.primeportal.net (http://www.primeportal.net), http://maquettegarden.free.fr (http://maquettegarden.free.fr), http://svsm.org/gallery/walkarounds (http://svsm.org/gallery/walkarounds) etc. More hard procedure for uploading, but more chance for images saving;
- Files hosting pages like http://rapidshare.de (http://rapidshare.de), http://www.zshare.net (http://www.zshare.net) etc. More useful for full-sized pics in archive, but limited time for hosting.

How you can post walkaround in thread:
- Name of item, and additional information (there photos taken etc):
- Preview pic;
- Link to walkaround.

Also you can upload walkaround as a list of preview pics, but without lots of full-sized images, please ;D

Post by: VonMudra on 10-08-2009, 22:08:30: My grandfather picked it up during WW2, and brought it home ;) Its got WW1 private purchase for military acceptence stamps, meaning basically that it was used in WW1 and WW2 :D

And did you check that walk around? its got some pretty good pics. If you need specific photos, let me know what to get, and I'll take them.

It's rare version of T-90. Command tank of last series, but with cast turret, only few produced.

Pre-production prototype, in current configuration production vehicle looks same. But - production of BTR-90 still not started ;D

Independent heavy tank, very interesting vehicle.
Also early cruiser tanks (Mk.I, Mk.IIA CS and Mk.III*), for Mk.III* most interesting rear side, bottom, and engine deck.

you know, russian AFV are so much better then american ones.

I talked to some american Paratroopers in the past. When i said=What do you think of Russian equipment, they replied= I would give my mother away to get a BMD and its variants.

I got some crazy idea I was going to get one, but when I started searching around, I found out those were almost as expensive as a Ferrari! Around $250,000 USD. So that pretty much killed my plans...I'll stick with my Willy's. Where did he acquire it? Is it original, or one of those kits? If it is orginal, did he do the restoration himself? If so, Very nice job.

He does the animatronics for films which is a BIG money maker. Coincidentally he did sell his Ferrari for it. TBH I don't blame him, I'm not a big fan of Ferraris and when was the last time you saw a Ferrari driving down the River Thames? ;)

well, kinda. it shows the layout of a typical trench, but oh well. It was an interesting find, and I thought someone may put it to use.

The trench texture clearly doesn't go well with the ground texture, remove such low quality!

it is, the M60 houses a machinegun in a mini turret on top of the main turret. the idea was the same as the M3 Grant, cept it worked with the M60.

It is a Kurogane Motortricycle used by Japan during ww2 for infantry transport and cargo duties.

Next time I pass through I will remember to do a Walkthrough with some detail shots and update this post:)
They also had a schwimwagen, kettenkrad, Indian motorcycle US army and a Jeep.

When I made my backpacker travel I stayed nearly 2 months in Thailand, so tell me where you are and I tell you where to go ;)
besides Kanchanaburi has the lollest war museum I ever entert#d, they claim to have the Steelhelm of Hitler and Mussulini for example.... and they say that a Mauser C96 is an allied weapon of WW2 .... I can upload fotos of the "highlights" if you want

I got a few for you, dating WW1 till just after WW2, did not take pictures of later models, also took pics of your Fordsen truck. Problem is though that the lighting in the museums so far was often very low, enough for the human eye but not my camera, and also i could not walk completely around most of them. Also i did my best with the pictures, some suck really bad, others are pure art.

I have 800 pictures so far, probably will take another 600 tomorrow. I have seen a total of over 100 planes and many light and heavy arms (at least 200). I took pictures of multiple angles as good as i could. Tomorrow another 350 planes to see and about 80 tanks and armoured cars, I am going to make all you guys jizz in your pants :D

Anyone got a clue? Things that pop in my head are late war experimental German design or post-war Czech design but I can't find anything on it.

With 5-colour camouflage cover. It´s ceonversible. In the past one side was "woodland", the other side was white snow camo. Ironically today one side is in woodland pattern while the other is in desert pattern. So basically every conscript has an Afghanistan-ready helmet ^^

I took this pic in Warsaw Tank Museum. The here seen tank participated in the fights of Warsaw Uprising, dunno exactly what happened to it, but it looks like an internal blast. Maybe the crew blew it up or it was hit in the ammo rack..

Here is the so called "easy 8". Note the beefier suspension and wider tracks. They were made in both cast and welded hull configurations.

They look simular because The T-55 was basicly an upgrade over the T-54. The first tank in the world to be equipped with an NBC kit.

Furthmore it had 45 rounds of ammo instead of 34. It was more safely stored away aswel. New sights, a brand new engine (significantly better then the T54's)

Armor! They protect the hydraulic shock absorbers. When they are clipped that are flat; unclipped they fold out to 60 degree angle.

In regards to the flaps on the T-72: they are RPG flaps that are designed to stop AT rockets from shooting at the front quarters of the vehicle. I'm told they didn't work at all.

PS, new photos will not be taken until the 30th. I have a reenactment this upcoming weekend and will not be working at the museum.

Good idea for any tank. The interiors were generally natural white or ivory, rather than pure bright white.

Don't base your paint on that vehicle. It was purchased from the SYRIAN Army. Though it has been repainted, the colors used may be slightly off those used in the war. The Panther at the museum is what causes me doubt as to the interior color of the Pz. I. Panther is Ordinance Tan on the inside and is considered the best restored example of its type in the country, if not the world.
American tanks were painted true white, by the way.

They are waterproof bags filled with what-have-you. Tools, spare parts, personal effects. No special features are on the M-60 that allow it to be fitted with sandbags.

Ah yes, two of the most important tanks in the tour! I will go a-photographing next Saturday.

Actually, there is this one fella who did a much better walkaround than I could hope to accomplish on the M103. Aside from his WoT work, he has also been a tour guide at the museum for 10 years. It's in multiple parts that are separated by subject.

It's has torsion bar suspension, so there won't be much to see on the outside. I will see if the bars can be viewed from the fighting compartment.

I can't remember on the T-54, but on the T-72 it has a control yoke + manual traversing and elevation wheels. The T-72 is terrifyingly small inside, btw. I can't even fit into the driver's position.

Please excuse my American measurements, but the MAXIMUM allowed height for a Russian tanker was 5 feet, 6 inches tall. The drivers for the T-72s would have to be more like 5 foot. I am 6 foot 1 inch (about 1.8, 1.9 meters). And it isn't just that it's small inside, everyone is in a semi-reclined position, which is really hard to get up and out of the tank from.

Tanks are surprisingly complicated to operate, especially once you get into the more modern stuff.

The collection includes about 300 vehicles total, 60ish of which are Tanks. If you have heard of it, there is a decent chance we have it.

No, but there is a StuG III and a Hetzer. Other German vehicles include a Pz. I, Pz. IV, Panther, multiple prime movers including an Sdkfz. 251 and a Kettenkrad. There is some weird scout jadgpanzer thing from the cold war, 2 Leopard Is, a Marder IFV, a Schützenpanzer SPz 11-2 Kurz....oh...and a Borgward remote controled demolition vehicle.

Ok, I've been looking into it and I'm about 75-85% sure that it is the same basic sight picture as the Abrams, or at least earlier models of it. At some point, they will start up the M60A1 and I'll see if the scope still works. There should be a secondary scope as well, but I haven't checked. That one should work without power.
