so you think hobarts funnies (specialised tanks) would be useless in normandy even in RL that they were used alot!!, and whats the point in having a mine kit on PHL when the allies don't get any air or armour support? i don't see the reason with that kit, especially if the mines are anti-tank aswell!.
im sure the flail tank could be implemented into this game, you just need someone to make a map for them to be in etc, what about bridge laying tanks, where another tank can go ontop of the bridge-layer while the bridge layer lays a bridge over a small/medium river?, all you gotta do is look at the history for these so called funnies, they were used quite alot by the british and canadians, the americans only used DD tanks which failed to even do anything on utah + Omaha beaches.
Pioneer kits are on Purple Heart Lane and Point du Hoc so the Germans can repair their defenses if they get destroyed. On both maps, there are static Machine Guns which can be destroyed and repaired. On PHL, there are the Nebelwerfer, Flak 88, and Mortars that need to be repaired. On PdH, there is the Flak Vierling that can be repaired, not to mention the StUG and Hanomags on the Counter Attack version (I refuse to call it the "32" player version so people don't get confused and take it out of their rotations). The only other option instead of Pioneer kit is the Sapper kit, and then someone would complain about the Germans throwing Gebault Ladungs at infantry.
As for the Funnies, it's mostly due to engine limitations. Right now, Anti Tank mines Kill (or heavily damage, for heavier tanks) tanks in one mine. To make mine clearing tanks useful, you basically have to make them trigger the mines but take no damage from them. You can't make the flail itself trigger the mines, so the mines would still explode (and do little or no damage) even if the tank drove over them backwards. Otherwise, it would just be a visual difference (with a big frickin flail on the front end for no reason), it performed like all other tanks (i.e.: normal damage from mines). Bridge layers are even more problematic. In BF2, any vehicle touching another deals damage. In Vanilla BF2, there was even a problem of Commanders dropping the paradrop buggies onto enemy tanks to kill them, because of this glitch. This is a main reason why it's so hard to get working, movable aircraft carriers and naval Tank transports into the game. Having a tank literally roll over another tank would just make both of them explode. Not to mention, who wants to sit in one place for an entire map providing a bridge that most people won't even use? Duplex Drive Shermans would be even more useless. They would either have that curtain thing up and not be able to fire, or have it down and have it be useless except to be a different visual model. I don't think they can get tanks to swim, so it would likely spawn on the beach with the curtain thing down, and just look different. I don't know about you, but I would like the Devs to make more important things then a useless curtain thing for DD Shermans.
Like Fuchs said, the only worthwhile Funnies are the AVRE and Crocodile (and other Flamethrower tanks). And the AVRE is already in the mod. And fans have already kit bashed together something resembling a Sherman flamethrower tank:
It aint. Gimme the AVRE!!!!!
Don't be stupid. You know it's in, it's just not in any maps yet. They wouldn't have made it if they aren't going to use it. It's probably on that Juno Beach map mentioned in the Changelog...
