I would like to see some smaller maps as well.  [...snip...] ?

You are far from alone.  We have learned to get very creative with what we have and try to throw in the odd 64 here and there even with only 20/30 people to keep things fresh but the choices are limited.

And if you play almost every night, like many of us do, it turns into a grind with the lack of selection. This is why many moved on.

the only thing this larger server space is going to do is create a larger wasteland inhabited by few more then 30 people. [...snip...]

I've noticed 16p maps can REALLY keep a server going when a handful of people leave.

This is exactly it. Time and effort wasted on re-adjusting the mod for 130 people is madness, when what the mod actually, desperately needs, is to cater to it's smaller player base by refining the awesome maps it already has. And fast.

Otherwise we're Il Duce issuing new feathered helmet plumes to Sicily on August 17th, 1943.

32 especially gets no love.
Which is badly needs. We would have a new game if only we had as many 32's given as much attention as half the 64's.

No you didn't, that thing does not work.

It was just a fun little visual. I have played FH2 almost every week since it's launch.  I know what the servers look like each day, regardless of the official browser. And the most ever up that don't show there regularly are, maybe, 1 other server.

Hi, Dago Red here.
 :D
Most of you know probably know me from the past 9 years of Forgotten Hope, and such popular hits as Lobo's little lub nubs, My night with Yossarian, and
Professor Anthrax, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Smacktard.

There is a funny thing going on with FH2 these days, with these 96 player, 130 player, 196 player whatever servers.  It's great people are experimenting and there is certainly no harm done with increasing the max cap on servers a bit.

But official words from the developers talking about adjusting the mod for these, if the experiments work?  Guys, have you checked the player numbers lately?

I just looked at the server browser.....

Yep, that's 2 players right now.....and they are both bots.

What we need, and have needed for about 2 years now, are well designed smaller maps for the player numbers. Not larger servers.  We can't even keep 1 single server capped out, globally. And in North and South America there are only a few nights a week we can count on 30+ players ... the old Wolf Thursday, now at WaW, for one.

If this mod is going to retain players, we need the same kind of amazing quality we see in the 64 size maps, put into the 16 and 32 size maps.

With the latest release -- featuring some awesome new maps, by the way -- we have lost just as many small maps as we gained.   Several of the old 16's including one of the most played and requested FH maps of all time (old Giarabub 16) are just ruined piles of junk at the moment:
http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=17553.0

Several other 16's and 32's are just mindless spam fests and don't play well for long.  I have been admining FH for 8 years now.  I've never seen a sustained lull go on for this long, even with a release just weeks ago.

The most common complaint about FH2, on an FH2 server, is the lack of players.
The second most common complaint is that the map is too big.
The third most common is that there are no tanks or kits or toys to play with on the smaller map the server switched to, because there aren't enough people to play a 64 size map.

Why does it have to be black or white?

WWII was in color you know.

That's a silly choice. If the developers chose to give the game a fancy, effects heavy veneer, that renders well on many computers, then fine. But don't make everyone forced to see it.  It doesn't render well on everyone's computer/monitor.  knowing this ahead of time was smart and providing an option to revert to the original game view was necessary for many others.

As an admin of two of the most populated FH2 institutions in north America of the past decade, I bring you informed opinion.

YES!

1. Bring back Giarabub 16 the way it was - it was a player favorite.

This was hands down, the most played 16 player map, and one of the most played maps on all the North American servers combined.  Everyone is pissed off about it being gone. It was a key map used not only to start the servers going and get them populated, but also was a player favorite, requested at all other times. It had the best combination of tactical possibilities while affording players various ways to play in an urban environment that had both close quarters street fighting and long range small arms engagements. It offered the sniper and sneaky saboteur the same opportunity to have fun as the frontal assault power gamer.

2. The new King of the hill version is terrible.

There is no room to maneuver. Borders are mismarked, leading to confusion about where you can and can't go. it affords no opportunity for tactical or thoughtful or interesting gameplay. It's just a spam fest and smine camper cartoon. There are no kits.  It is not fun.

Excellent, thank you.

There are MANY people asking about this each night EST prime time.

Hi devs.... isn't it about time to get that manual back up?

Some people cannot play with the film grain/processing effects.  Please either get that manual up somewhere or post the shaders client replacement!  THANK YOU!

This solution/fix does not work. Getting more crashes than ever.

FH2 Help / Support / Re: FH2 randomly CTDing
« on: 21-07-2012, 07:07:25 »
Getting real tired of these CTD's.

better hardware is not the answer. EVERYONE is having these random CTD's, not just the several dozen who've decided to post here about it.

I have a brand new rig, that can run any game out there on high settings, it is certainly not my ram or hardware. And this started before the last release, but is MUCH worse since.

Hey all!

1. Can someone please post a copy of the manual in the forums? Sticky it in the body of the post, would be best. It is very hard for new people to find, and always has been. Furthermore, the link to where it's hosted has been dead since 2.45 launch (http://ifihada.com/~jbp/fh2pub/usermanual/).

2. Badly need a copy of the shader client zip the one that is processing effects-free. Can someone attach that here as well, pretty please?  Anyone looking to remove the film grain effects from their game (because it doesn't work on their graphics card/monitor) cannot do that with the manual unavailable. Previously it was located in the user manual in section 2e or something like that.

I suspect they are actually bots themselves -- what sentient being would actually choose to play a multi player game with active, populated servers, that way?

See you tonight.

Admins have reported serious PB issues with the server on Waw --  but also reported the same issues on multiple other servers so as of right now, I don't think anyone knows exactly what the deal is.

This is from Trexer a Waw Tourny admin regarding anyone having this problem:

send a support ticket to PB. http://www.evenbalance.com/t...ticket/new_ticket.php?game=bf2

I'd suggest mentioning that this problem started after the May 17th update and that many other people are experiencing the same problem. They'll likely have you run PBSetup and stuff you've already done. But if you can show them that doesn't work maybe they will release a fix.

Solid advice.

General Discussion / Re: HSLAN has went to hell....
« on: 11-06-2012, 05:06:26 »
What are you guys talking about?

If hslan is down or it's past 8pm EST time (US), then go to WAW.  I have been playing FH on WOLF since 2004. WOLF and FH were like peanut butter and jelly. Like wine and cheese. Like pie and coffee.

Wolf went down with the death of FH2 in the Americas this year, but WAW is still more than active -- you have no excuse not to play FH2 just because your European server is down now and then.

I think Carrion is on vacation yes, but there are still some 4 or 5 wolf admins active to light up the WaW server each thursday (and help out on Friday too).

Before more of you pm me here, yes wolf forums are down and I don't know why. I went to wolf servers forums right away to talk to someone, but they are down too -- so we're broke. If anyone has a non-forum contact for THS or someone at wolfservers use it and let me know what you hear!

Or maybe this is just the last death spazm and the end of 12 years of Wolf.

Greetings FH community.

You may remember me from such hits as Forgotten Hope v.5 through v.70, as well as 2006's Lobo impersonator of the year, "Grab your cojones and follow me you machos," Stranger Than Fiction collaborator, the man who killed Yossarian, and that late night Wolf admin who always banned the racist glitcher who was ruining your game.

I'm please to announce a new initiative for point awards on Thursday nights.  I will personally be granting 10 point bonuses to kill shots on any of the following players, Carrion, Professor Anthrax, 69rat, and FH2 :|Hi.  5 points for Forgottenkevinohope.

Thank you, and thank you for covering me while I use the torch.
