FH1 Simple Pleasures - Fun that never gets old.
« on: 15-08-2009, 23:08:36 »
So after a few weeks abscence I've been back playing FH1 with a bit more regularity and I thought I'd start a thread so we can discuss all of our favorite things to do in FH. A lot of my list is based partly on necessity as much as fun (living in Canada, on a comp with 512 RAM and currently on a wireless internet connection), so a lot of times even if I wanted to just rush into Pavlov's House I couldn't. Regardless, here is my list, add yours too.

- Taking the Thompson/Exp pack kit on El Alamein, booby-trapping the south flag and then hiding on the ridge opposite (at the bottom of the map) and blowing up the flag whenever it turns grey. Loads of fun, considering it's a 30 second hike back to the flag to Exp pack it again and collect two points.

- Blowing up trucks and jeeps with anti-tank rifles. The Boys rifle is one of my favorite in the game and it's great fun on maps like Crete to hide behind a rock until some monkey comes burning by and a jeep and BANG!

- Hauling a Marder to the little group of houses and trees north of the British airfield on El Al and blowing up everything that tries to make it to the north flag. Extremely good fun until some knob in a Daimler figures he'll sneak up on you.

- Taking a trench flag on Karelia armed only with my trusty Ruby pistol.

- Sitting in the sawhouse on the far west of Bulge with a Springfield and waxing anyone stupid enough to stand still anywhere between the windmill and the American river bunker flag.

- Taking the house flag at the end of the German airfield on Fall Weiss with the flamethrower. Sneaking through  the forests and rivers, all the way across the map, just to prone in the bushes and wait for some poor sod to spawn there and then I light the whole house on fire.

- Being an Italian scout on Tobruk and hiding in those little bushes on the ridge. Three bunkers spread out nicely in front of you, sniper heaven.

- Defending the north flag on Bocage, specifically because there are loads of ways of doing this. Be a grease monkey and just keep repairing the Vierling, haul a Jagdpanther up there and hide it in the trees, taking the scoped G43 and sit in the barn, take deployable MG42 and filled any attacking jeeps full of holes, etc.

Yours?

  • Shooting down planes with the Marder.
  • Not as many 1-shots for tanks and antitank.
  • More accurate flight models.
  • Sea combat.
  • No dolphin diving.
  • The nostalgia of an old game.

I need help with this:
A nuimber of my maps, like Charlie sector COOP, Trios Pont, The russian front etc, do not come from FHSW mod and thus don't use all the sound effects available... I want to know how I can change the init.con file from their respective mod folders i.e. Intesity mod for Trios Pont and vFH for the others so that it uses the sound effects from FHSW folder?

I just came off a round off "Battle Isle" on the pixel-fighter server and I gotta say: PUMP SHOTGUN = AWESOME!! About only weapon in FH1 that frequently beats the knife at close range :-)  And gotta love the japanese suicide kit on that map... ** enter room full of americans.... **BOOM**

And so many other maps and moments and fun rounds...where do I start. Running through pavlov's house with knife/shovel at the ready slicing and dicing through opposition on the way up to the flag. Playing hard fought infantry battles on tobruk between the bunker flags....dodging italian tanks and putting satchels on them  **BOOM**.  Cursing aussie's and Italians with feathered hats and more fun combat for infantry than in just about any other FH1 desert maps...God i LOVE tobruk.

Oh and when I'm german on Seelow Heights I love being the one hard to find PITA hiding in the flag area of the first flag, making it impossible for the russians to cap it. **Russian chat: "WTF is wrong with this flag?" .... "Idk, why won't it turn?" - LOL** Of course if they have too hard a time I will pull back anyway at some point cause that maps only really fun when fought over more than just first flag. And I have even more fun on this map as the russians. i find it's usually more fun to be the attacking team. Oh and russian rpg43 AT grenade FTW!!

Liberation of Caen is a blast for me on either side. When german I love "kubel-satcheling" the canadian tanks and when canadian I love being an engy to satchel enemy defense to clear way for our tanks(e.g. driving in on flank to south river flag and satcheling the two pak's there, and after that's capped, getting across river and satcheling 88 and pak guarding bridge.

That's it for now, but so many good maps and so many good times and the good times are still rolling on for me. I play FH2 when wolf is occupied but I'll also play FH1 as long as there are still others online playing it. ;D

FHSW takes the sound effect from FH1, Brutwurst soundpatch (or so it seems) ands adds alot more whizz for shells and bullets...

I once managed to edit the INIT.con file for either FH intensity, FHSW or vFH (can't recall which, or if it was only one) in such a way that I had the FHSW soundpack for all maps once I was playing FHSW irrespective of which mod any individual map on the list came from... This includes, the unofficial mappack by chaps like realbadseed, Intensity maps like Trois Pont (which is one of my all-time favorites) and other maps like Charlie sector with bot-support...

It's sad when these don't have that soundpack since that it the most advanced and complete pack, with all vBF42 sound effects either improved or replaced - And yet, my favorite levels lack these advantages... I just need someone's hlpe to understnad how to get this done once again, which mod folder those maps should go, and how the init.con file should read like
