Adding rifle to the mortar kit
« on: 29-09-2009, 13:09:43 »
I think there should be a rifle in the mortar kit cause 81mm mortars can fire only up to 5-8km hence the mortar squad was relatively close to the front lines. And i am quit sure that in ww2 this was the case also(that they had rifles). It would make operating the mortar kit more popular and so making the gameplay more intense. My argument is based on this web site http://www.ww2gyrene.org/weapons_81mm_mortar.htm and personal experience in the Finlands Defence Forces 81mm mortar team. The mortar hasnt changed much since ww2 and i simply cant imagine being part of a mortar team without a personal weapon. The thing is too heavy to carry around as ahole in irl so would it be strange to have another 4kg added? Tell me what do you good people in this forum think about my suggestion.

I don't think people would use the mortar more often if it had a rifle.

Well i would.... I have been thinking about adding binoculars to the kit as well since mortar squad leader can direct fire by himselve in the area of his/hers sight and it very accurate after the firts shot. Now when you try to do that with out a spotter it is harder then in irl. It might be an overkill though...

I think for gameplay reasons a mortar should remain with his gun.
This forces players into a defined role. Otherwise I see good mortar kits going to waste cause the users run off to the front.

I know you won't do that, but there are enough people out there who would be tempted. ... trust me.

I can picture that happening just fine... you run out of ammo and instead of waiting for more you think "ah, to **** with it, I have a rifle, might as well join the fun".

You wont run out of ammo, when it hits 0, exit and re-deploy it, you get full ammo again. Abusing the BF2 engine, lovely!  ;)

Still i dont see "why not" when it is already in the game and there has been no complaints about how it affects game play negatively.

There are some why-nots but why do you think it should be in?
Tell us some reasons and try to convince us...

In my opinion it wouldn´t hurt but I love pistols...

American mortar kits should def. get M1 Carbines. They're almost weightless!

has nothing to do with weight
all deployable ktis since FH for BF1942  had only a pistol and no rifle.
it has been like that for ages, why change it now ?
