I do love anything space oriantated, as I thought as a young kid "we'd" allready have Star Wars type spaceships by 2010! So I record any movie showing different spacecrafts etc  :D

I read in the reviews somewhere that a prequel would be brilliant for Event Horizon, I'd sure love to see that one! Wonder why they never got round to doing it  ???  Watch this "Space" I guess!

Last movie I saw: Ben X [B, 2007]
A cool little Belgian movie about an autistic/Asperger-Syndrome-having student (Ben) who gets bullied a lot in real life and escapes into his favorite MMORPG Archlord (as Ben X). When he gets pushed over the edge by his classmates he looses it and plots revenge.

Being an Aspie myself (for lack of a better word) this movie actually made me quite emotional, and any movie that manages that gets my thumbs up. But apart from the autism-angle (which, apart from the story/plot, is also manifested in the editing, characters and cinematography) it's simply a well made low budget film that makes the best of it's budget and actors. A good part of the movie takes place in the fantasy realm of the game which can easily fall flat, but Ben X makes it work. Movies like this always make me wonder why Belgians make such good movies while the dutch movies are usually uninspired sub-par affairs.

So, highly recommended, although for non-dutch speaking people it might not work. A lot of Ben X's dia-/monologues are based on wordplay which doesn't translate very well. The title itself is already a problem since it leans on the phonetical pronounciation of the name, meaning "Am Nothing" in dutch (Ben X => "ben niks").

So you might not like it the way I did, but still, give it a chance.  :)

It is indeed a brilliant movie. And the international succes was gigantic, Nic Balthazar never expected his movie to be so succesfull, because it was like the only movie wich showed the life of an "Aspie"

If it were to be made as a thriller as well and not as action cinema, then this movie is going to rock!

I love Science Fiction storys as well. After having seen 2001 as a kid I read all I could from Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Stanislav Lem and Bradbury and such. So I´m a bit dissapointed by this site, because instead of featuring spaceships from serious literature it shows only action movie and TV series spaceships :(
Everything is a joke compared to Rama. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendezvous_with_Rama
And the movie is about to be made http://marketsaw.blogspot.com/2010/10/morgan-freeman-rendevous-with-rama.html

Oh come on, give him some credit. It is easier to feature ships from movies and comics since they are already designed and he does have some notable literary spaceships in his list (feel free to send him more! ^^).

I mean for example RAMA was always different in my head, sure I was lured by the cover of the books, but in the end I always saw it with a different design from the inside.
What I want to say is that it is kind of hard to agree on the looks of a spaceship when it's only described in a book.

That RAMA is in the works as a film is something that I am really looking forward to! ^^

Btw. I have a nice new SciFi Movie from Switzerland for you guys, it ain't that great, but it is a Scifi nevertheless and a new one at that. I will give you a review after work today. :)

Of course the Rama Spaceship is there and every other ship I checked.
Discovery, Nostromo and the Rodger-Young from Starship Troopers ;)
I lol´ed at the references.. Godzilla Height: 100m :)

Loved the site too. Thanks.

Although as an oldschool Star Wars fan I had a hard time accepting the length of the Super Star Destroyer being 19km (instead of the previously stated 8) but the guy makes a good case. So 19 it is! :)

And I was looking for ships from Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn saga, but alas.

<<< SPOILER ALERT >>>

I have a bit of a love-hate thing with Event Horizon. Starts out really well, impressive tension build-up, but the third act just ruins everything. Suddenly the whole premise of a black hole/alternate dimensions gets watered down to Sam Neill being a psycho.
...

Spot on. I feel the same way.

Latest movie: Toy Story 3. Not much to say that's not in line with other reviews: A bit wary, but who cares, so much fun and looking wonderful. Buzz Lightyear was hilarious ;D

Hear hear. Next to The X-Files: Mythology story surely one of the best sci-fi/TV experiences I've ever had.

BSG is quite well done, but some of the episodes did lack a bit. Especially in the final season.
All in all though those were made even by the awesome ones! I love the Pegasus episodes. Pure evil. ^^

I really like BsG myself. I think its my 3rd favorite series, after BoB and Twin Peaks. Though BsG is surprisingly similar to the cartoon series from the 80s called Robotech. Ive never seen the old BsG series, so i dont know who got influenced by who.
I think some of the BsG episodes isnt too good, and i hate the president/cancer-woman. But generally its awesome. They manage to change their content a tiny bit through the seasons so it doesnt get boring, but still keep it in the same style so it have the same mood.
I finished the series some weeks ago, after starting to see it a year or two ago. Great epic sci/fi action, though ill give it   8/10 Its not perfect. The only series ill give max is BoB.

I think firefly deserves top billing as a sci-fi series, I just wish it had not been cancelled...

Also loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

And Deadwood

And the shield

And Dexter

These shows all deserve 9/10 - 10/10 in my opinion

Have you seen it though?

And deadwood was amazing, so mad it was cancelled.

Also, I forgot to mention BSG. I liked it, but at the same time, it had no humour. That was one thing I missed about it, was that it literally had like 5 funny parts in the entire show. And starbuck was the most annoying dyke.
