Bayonets...
« on: 10-01-2010, 08:01:24 »
Today I was playing around in a local server to get acustomed to the new maps, and for some reasons I decided to play around with the bayonet for a little while and realized a couple things...

a.) Maybe it's just me, but I was thinking the bayonet jousting is a little too casual and instead the action should be faster and more aggresive, perhaps even add a little grunting in too...similar to the automatic grenade caution when someone throws a grenade.

b.) It's always the same attack style, would it be possible to add more random attack styles, such as diagonal slashes and various stabs too?

What do you think?

Thanks,
Oddball

Could be great a little aggretion doesnt do anything wrong.

I also noticed that the G43 bayonet when you draw it and place it in the rifle, its a k98 instead of a G43; maybe it just the engine limitations.

I remember using it in a map where you could spawn with it and the G43 bayonet, and you draw a k98; weird but it happened. But it was a custom map so maybe the guy who did it put something wrong.

That's probably it.  Cuz yeah, the Gew98 had no bayonet attachment.

@ the Oddball, I do think more animations for it would be nice, even a randomization between using the bayonet and the butt of the rifle...but I think that's far in the future, if every happening, due to the need for other things.....

Ah...the old Day of Defeat. You could use melee and I used a custom skin where you could use the butt of your rifle.

Yeah, i'm sure it's not top priority, but I thought it might be a good idea and wasn't even sure if it's possible, but yeah.. using the butt of the rifle would also be a good idea, but that would require a lot of new animations...

I'd like to see that the player would hold the rifle differently when the bayonet is attached. Right hand behind the butt to give the thrust more power or something.

I've never heard of that....  One thing that should be realized is that any bayonet training taught in basic about careful parrying and such promptly went out the window in real life, where they mostly just slashed and stabbed any possible way to kill the enemy....
