I have been stuck on 2 missions for a couple of days, would appreciate some tips.

Light tank
Quote
LT-10: The ghost
Spot enemy vehicles and enable your allies to cause at least 1000 HP of damage to vehicles spotted by you. Remain unspotted at the moment when the damage is caused
I have been trying with tier 5 and 6 light tanks, a lot of failure. There are a couple of good maps with good hiding spots for spotting, that I know. However, these maps tend not to be in the roation, when I need them. Typical, I know. Also I think when multiple people are spotting the vehicle, i won't get the points - is this correct?

Artillery
Quote
SPG-15: War Gods
Be among top 3 players on your team by experience earned and damage caused.
Cause at least 2000HP of damage
Currently I have tier 8 and tier 10 SPG's available. Its getting quite frustrating - I am often in the top 3 by damage caused, sometimes even in the first place. However experience earned tends to place me much lower, best I have done during these days is 5th place. Do I need to go into tank destroyer/ scout mode or something? So far the easiest way seems to be to have my team lose badly, while I hit as many enemies as I can...

Any tips on either of those missions? What tier vehicles would be best?

You need to set the PC calculator to "scientific", then it does it correctly

Rome II  is 50% off on steam this weekend. Is it worth it? Have they fixed any of those bugs yet? Is the campaign challenging?

I had a little bit of lag as well, but turning most of the settings from maximum to high fixed it for me.

That seems like it will be one of the few tier X tanks, that I actually enjoy playing.

A. Not quite sure I understand, do you want another tree like the one already there in the foreground? That is possible, but one taken with a similar camera at a similar distance would be needed. We could keep extending it like I have in my example, it's not that difficult.
I have let go of the tree idea - too difficult to find an suitable image.

About exending the picture - I still consider it an option. My biggest worry - would the final image look pixelated, when printed? If so, then this option shoud be avoided

B. It is possible to blend it into a solid green color, the pros of this would be that we can then stretch it as much as we want in that particular direction.

I have thought about this a bit and I think a solid green won't look good with the furniture. So this is put aside as well.

C. Yes this can be done. Of course I wouldn't recommend that particular image, I can't imagine a Toucan living in such an environment. but otherwise we can blur that and set it in the background. If by natural you mean camera defocusing on the background then yes, it'd work.
By natural I mean the final result should not look fake, like its clearly photoshopped. But yes, camera defocusing is the effect I have in mind.
I'm not quite sure how out of focus the background should be. Perhaps the safest way would be to have it as blurry, as the background of the original image. The result would look similar (in my mind anyway) to option A, but should be easier than creating the background out of nothing, right? If this will be the case, the bacground picture doesn't even have to be a natural habitat of a toucan.
Anyway, I'm still looking for a suitable image. I have been quite busy at work, but I'm hoping to find something during the weekend, if not before.

D. Personally I wouldn't like something so bright taking up much space in my home, but that's just me.

I'd like to add that if you plan to run a kerosene heater or the like in the winter you should consider scrapping this idea, otherwise your walls will be stained black, like the inside of a heavy smokers lungs. Just saying, things that can cause wear should be considered, I know I used to live in a nice house with a nice interior, could never clean that stuff off the walls and ceiling. Fire, pets, kids, water, those sort of things are damaging. Don't forget steam, since it is after all a kitchen.

Since the bird is the brightest thing and will be taking up only a small part of the image, I'm not too worried. It should brighten up the apartment.
The wallpaper will be covered by glass, so humidity should not be a problem. Should also be fairly easy to clean.
As for heating, its a newly built building with district heating, so no additional heating equipment should be needed.

Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated. There is still time with this - I need to send this to be printed in 5 weeks. Still I need to figure out the general color scheme so I can choose the colors for the kitchen furniture in the beginning of next week.

Let me just tell you that I love the idea. Great thinking with the plexi-glass, having it by the stove it will get dirty quite fast, very easy to just wipe off the glass.

And I absolutely love the picture, and it could really look great as a wallpaper.

oh and congratulations on your apartment, i like the floor-plan.

Thanks! Im quite pleased with the apartment as well. If anything, its a tad small.
If the picture cannot be made into the kitchen backsplash, I will have to find another use for it. I love the "I own this hole" attitude I'm getting from it :)

Dont use plexi on surfaces you need to clean often. It will get micro-scratches from the wipes (and you will need to clean it often behind the stove) very fast which will lead to it looking dull and milky. It will lose its shine quickly if you use rough kitchen cloth, and nothing looks more shitty than partial dullspots on a nice shiny surface, esp with a picture behind it. If you want to go that way use acrylic glas, its a lot more resistant, althou a bit more expensive too. Or just go for real glas with some aluminum edges. Should be a lot cheaper, works the same way and looks good too.

Yours, a former interior architect.
Well its not regular plexiglass, its supposed to be scratch resistant. A friend of a friend has had this solution for a few years and he was happy about it. Still I'm a bit worried about what you are saying. I have a piece of this glass behind my current stove for testing purposes. I will try to use some abrasive materials on it, once enough grease has collected.
To be safe, I could only use soft cloth and non abresive cleaning materials on the final result, rigth? The worst case scenario is that I will have to replace the glass in the future.

Well I managed to stretch it by 1000 pixels, just to give an example. It is possible for the entire background to be replaced though.
Ok, first of all let me ask one more question. For an adequate printed image, one would need at least 240 ppi, am I correct? this would mean, that the end result needs to be at least 5700x28000 pixels.

About the example, its a bit difficult for me to imagine how it would look in final size. The light green seems to end a bit unnaturally atm. In my mind I imagined the final background to be the same shade of green you used on the left, with an occaisonal bright green or dark grey mixed in (top left corner of the original image). I hope this made sense.

As i see I currently have 4 options:
a) have the image extended as i described above. As I understand, this is quite difficult to achieve. Also I would have to find some high resolution close-ups of trees, if I want some to be placed along the wall.
b) Have the image smoothly turn into solid green. This way the image would be about as long as your example and from there on a solid green would follow. This should be a bit easier right? I'm a bit confused about what colors to use for the furniture, so it would match the solid green.
c) Have a completely different background blurred enough, so it would look natural. I have spent a good part of this evening looking for a good candidate, so far I have found a few "maybe" images. I will keep looking. Something like this is what I have in mind:

Is it possible to take part of this image and then blur it enough to fit the original image? Is there a "magical blurring tool" in photoshop, that can do this easily? ;) I will of course try and find an image with much better quality.
d) Use a completely different image altogether.

Right now I'm slightly leaning toward c). The big question is, will this look natural?

Firstly I want to say, that I have a very vague idea of what is and what is not possible in photoshop, so I apologise, if what I'm asking is near impossible.

I'm not willing to lose any of the quality. Rather than stretching the background, I thought about creating a whole new blurry background, using the same colors as in the image. I take it from your reply, that making it so that the result would look believable, would require advanced photoshop skills and a lot of time.

What about using a completely different blurry background, could that be made to feel natural? I'd have to go looking for a suitable image then.

Just to make sure everyone understands: Before any of you start working on this image, I will ask the author for a higher quality version of the photo. I would hate to have someone spend time on this and then in the end not use the result. At this point I just want to know if this can be done, or if I should go looking for an image that is originally in a suitable format.

Printing the image on the glass is considerably more expensive and after the downpayment, my savings have dried up, so the budget is becoming an issue here. Anyway, I have a piece of plexiglass for testing purposes, and photos look quite nice behind it, so I'm not too worried about saving some money here. There is always the possibility of me fucking up on installing the wallpaper, but I consider it a calculated risk ;)

I do know a few guys with fancier than average cameras, but they don't go "picture hunting" on a regular basis. Besides, I don't really know what I want (Though i'm pretty sure I would recognise it, when I see it). So all I could tell the photographer, is "I would like to have a nice picture on my wall" :)

I got tired of paying rent and decided to buy my own apartment - the construction should end in the end of November. I have been on a quest for furniture for some time now, so I could move in as soon as possible. I need some advice with my kitchen corner, namely the backsplash behind the countretop. I have decided to have a photograph printed on wallpaper and then place a heat resistant plexiglass over it. Heres a picture of a random kitchen to illustrate:

I have gone through a lot of pictures, and have fallen in love with this one by Bill Holsten (http://www.billholsten.com)

There's something about that bird... Anyway, the problem is this is clearly not a suitable format - the printed picture needs dimensions of 600x2950 millimeters. What I have in mind, is to mirror the image, so the bird would be facing right, and then extending the blurry background, playing around with the same colors. It would also be nice to place a few similar looking mossy trees along the wall. The problem is, I don't have any experience in photography or photoshop and will need some help.

So here's the question: does this seem like something someone with basic knowledge of photoshop could make? The end result needs to look natural, I would hate to ask someone, have him/her spend time on it and then in the end go: "errr... I think I will just put tiles on the wall", because the result is not good enough.

If you have suggestions on other photos to use as the backsplash, or a solution completely different, I will be glad to hear them. The solution described above is definitely not set in stone yet. Maybe someone can suggest some more websites, where I could choose some panoramas from. Bare in mind though, I'm going to need the contact information of the author, so I can ask him/her for the high resolution version of the photo.

Here's the prelimenary drawing of the kitchen furniture and the plan of the apartment. These should help you get a better understanding of the situation.

I appreciate all input :)
