Post by: Eat Uranium on 15-05-2010, 00:05:41
So, what is your favourite thing about this patch?

Mine personally has been the new handweapons - the lewis especially.

The AT rockets fire at a reasonable velocity, the bren feels fluid and more useable, the Mp40 seems to have a cool new animation when proning, I've been encountering groups of soldiers (and advancing in groups) more often with the spawn waves, and the new map is fantastic.

Thanks for this gift of love devs.

LMG change, I am so happy. I shot 2 squads attacking our Panzers with MG34. Panzerschreck feels really good aswell. Those are my favs. Though MG42 feels kinda odd, maybe the way it recoils could be changed to make it feel like it would shoot faster than MG34. Still AWESOME.

But I also like PEB, at first I really wasn't interested in it at all, but now its my favorite infantry map. I really like how big role the Sherman has cause of no spawnable at kit. Map is also really beautiful and is pretty big also, first I thought it would be size of "the Cretan map where Gebrisjäger attack from the mountains".

I don't seen new handweapon, so i vote for :

- New sounds
- LMGs tweaks !
- Port-en-Bessin
Title: Re: Favourite new thing
Post by: Flyboy1942 on 15-05-2010, 10:05:54
I really like how uniquely PEB plays.

It is large, so youre not stuck in the same areas, but still traversable by foot
The push mode keeps the fighting concentrated, but there are two avenues of attack = options
The two push corridors are joined at the front rather than the back; interesting difference
The flag zones are close quarters
The region in between flags is a mix of close-medium range
The hills/hedgerows surrounding PEB and the separating waters of the port provide long range encounters
Few tanks, few pickup AT kits, but lots of satchels, so infantry-tanks are symbiotic
Beautiful map as a whole
Variation in the layout of the city, the statics, and the trenches outside the city

If I were to describe the feel at this point, I would say the fighting feels like Bardia, but the flags are capped much differently.

Came home late, only played a bit of operation Cobra.

I came. I saw the M18 hellcat. I frakking ripped everything apart. i    LOVE      IT.

And the new MG smoke coaxial things! AWESOME!
This is just the tip of the iceberg! i can feel it! I'll update this post tomorow

2.25, it had too much recoil and you couldn't hit anything with it besides single shot. In 2.2 it was perfect.

On 2.2 ít barely had recoil at all. It was way too overpowered. Ofcourse it was worse in 2.25, as recoil was raised, but it was balanced then, I havent tried it on this version tough.
Title: Re: Favourite new thing
Post by: Paavopesusieni on 16-05-2010, 08:05:49
It definitely wasn't balanced as it couldn't even do its job. It was only good CQB weapon and inaccurate heavy recoil Garand. No it seems pretty good, still need to get it into real use.

1. Port En Bessin - Really fun map.

I hitched a ride with a Brit Company heading to Bessin & once i got there for the 1st time, within a few minutes I found myself in a nasty firefight on a boat in between east and west flags.............
....no "Gilligan"...no "Skipper"...... ;D

32 player version is my favorite

2. Sounds - Sounds are really soooo much better.

Looking forward to next release.

something with canadians would be nice

I've voted LMG/AT change because first, I did not already play on Port en Bessin, but alle the bug fixes is really cool, the weapons/vehicles I didn't really tried it, but it looks nice, and the spawnwaves I don't know if it's only on Port en Bessin or on all maps but I didn't see any difference.

I havent played it enough yet to have an opinion, but spawnwaves, bugfixes and improved sound seems like the most important changes. Its fun, but i dont care too much about which handweapon or vehicle i have.
PEB seems like a very cool map aswell. Ill answer the poll when i have gotten a real opinion  :)

Love the new bot-supported PHL, and nebelwerfer firing... not FH1 level yet, but its lovely
Love the rocket sound
Love the new sounds from range
Like the new PAK40 sound
Love the new Tiger cannon
Like the new Panther cannon
Love the new Panther turret sound
Love mgs with smoke
Love mgs un-nerfed recoil when prone
love new tracers
Love most distant sound effects... grandes and k98s could use those though
Love the new big beautiful bird over Cobra
Like the new American tank hunter
Despise the fugliness of the drilling, especially ironsight
Love the addition of Gazala
like the new m1 skin
like the toned-down plane HE effect
love plane handling now
Bodies don't fly around
And the game feels lighterweight
Love Point of Bessin... one of the 5 most beautiful maps.. Now past, Sfakia and Gazala
Comparable to PHL, Fall of Tobruk Line and Giarabub... more so than Giarabub actually.

Especially love the effect shake

Yes it existed, but it was never used. It's still in the mod as an easter egg type weapon.

StG44 was indeed fitted with a ZF4 scope. These guns, however, were incredibly rare. I don't think there is even evidence that it would have been used in battle. Ergo, the StG44 ZF in FH2 is more like an Easter egg.

(And it's just too awesome not to include in the game :p )

They trialed them at a sniper school, and it was found completely unsuitable.  The ones that had been modified with rails were issued as normal assualt guns and the whole idea was scrapped.

That's cuz I haven't been ingame in months....  School has been hell, I have 3 papers to do this week, then another paper the next week, then finals.  My only break is a reenactment this weekend, then its on the grindsaw until the middle of june.  Then a short break, and then 5 weeks of a summer class, then actual summer.  So I don't really have time to play MP games....it sucks.... :(

I loved the way Bren handles now, and the sights that you can actually see through. Using it on the new Falaise pocket was epic.

Port-en-Bessin has been a slight disappointment, but just because of playing it once on allies. We got raepd.
Seeing the HI-Power was also great, and i was realy surprised to see it in the MG42spawn kit on Cobra. Haven't tried the M18 yet or the 231. I was away for the weekend so this evening was the only time I could try this.

See ya on the field!

Yeah allies definitely have a hard time getting a foothold and well...holding it.

What was that map that was released a while ago that one team would always get clobbered on and everyone complained about? Was it PHL? Fall of Tobruk? Sfakia? Sidi Rezegh? Tunis?

Well anyways, just like all the maps before, the community will have to adapt their play style and learn how to fight on this beautiful new chunk of real estate...

Tunis, but these maps are pretty different from eachother. And Tunis is fine now. Yea it is the most CQC slaughter in the mod, but some map needs to have this so.. it's OK. :)

As i have heard the spitfire was better at turning than the BF109.I haven't tried it in game is it this way?

Flying physics been simplified from 2.0, unfortunately. Right now planes turning and flying like UFO.
I understand, that maps not so large, to make them fly close-to-real one, but why 'em changed 2.0 flying physic to almost-vanilla one?
As for me I'm quit flying.

FH2 is not a flight sim, if you want realistic flying, buy IL2 Sturmovik.

I hate when I see that argument against something physics related. Sure FH2 is not a flight sim, but at the same time you have to realize that because it is possible to put in better physics, it should be done.

Yeah, it's like saying "Hey, this ain't a tank combat sim, buy anything else and let Tiger drive with speed of a Kubelwagen!!!"

sorry but 2.15 was perfect

In an ME109 vs Spitfire, the spitfire outturned the Me109 always. Just as they did IRL. But the Me109 out dived and climbed the Spitfire. Just as IRL. This was perfect as it matterd to the pilot, not the plane

Now on operation cobra, 2 FW190's can outperform the 4 US planes. And their are other scenarios. But lets not go offtopic here.

I Love the new Sounds, the Battle sounds are way better then Before.

Before, the Mapper had to build the Battle, adding Distant Battle sounds or Battle Ambient sound, now thats all gone and the PLAYERS build the Battle, and gives it a realistic and awesome feeling

Well Done!

M16 GMC Quad .50CAL or M15 GMC 37MM + 2 .50CAL ftw?  ;D

Both could be used.  The M16 and M15 where widely deployed in both Italy as in Normandy.
M16 production numbers where +- 3600 units
M15 production numbers where +- 2500 units

But then i rather, tbh, see the wirbelwind on Cobra and have 2 AA trucks removed ( so 2 AA trucks + wirbel). And then give the allies either one of the above.
But ye, thats just speculation. operation cobra wassent a Operation totalize 2. Op totalize was a map wich saw the luftwaffe dominate the skies from their own bases all the way to the allied one. THe crusader MKIII AA was defiantly needed.

Another +1 for 2.26 is the improved Halftrack performance.

Opel AA is pretty nicely balanced, you have a chance of getting away from it. Wirbelwind on the other hand is hell on sky. Wirbelwind > 2 Opel AAs.

But quad 50 cal would awesome, the most badass thing western allied had besides thunderbolt (though thunderbolt isn't what it is supposed to be because of the ROF :()

Aye

Ye maybe the wirbelwind wont fit. If it is added, it would pwn the skies on one front, but the rest of the front would be ripped apart.

No more hints, i already said too much but according to that you´ll get mobile AA for allies - what it is will be a surprise and perhaps in the news soon ;)

The Wirbelwind was a fairly rare vehicle too. Only one on Totalize is enough for the entire Normandy front.

Aye. The Mobelwagen or Flak gun on Hanomag should have been used instead imo

The wirbelwind ingame is also nothing like the real thing. IRL the wirbelwind had a slow rotating turret.

That would suck considering all the planes we have fly like Jets, because of the VBF2 engine.
