mortars?
« on: 26-05-2009, 02:05:45 »
Are there mortars in single player? Or do you have to unlock them in multi? I have a horrid connection and can't even get a kill. Where would i get a mortar?

Yeah i'm pretty sure the mortars are in SinglePlayer. I can't say where for sure but most wide open maps contain mortars.

Yup
You carry mortars where you want to deploy them. Then click the fire button, wait 2 seconds, and voila it's sitting there ready to use.

I guess they're in a pickup kit, so just a kit sitting in some tent somewhere that you can press "G" to pick up. I can't tell you of the top of my  head which maps they're in because I can't ever actually remember finding one-not that I've ever really looked though.

You can only pick up the kits, which look like folded up mortars, and you do it in the same way that you pick up any other kit.  Actual deployed mortars cannot be picked up.

however the mortars are more like 2 player weapons
you need a spotter to get you targets and then engage them with the mortar
i dont think bots will spot targets for artillery so there is no real use for the mortar in singleplayer
unless you spot for yourself and then enter an fixed mortar.

Theres a static at Kidney Ridge on El Alamein. Pick up kits are only on newer maps and those are not in single player sadly.

Fall of Tobruk has deployable mortar kits aswell iirc, I know the German side has one anyway.

Siege of Tobruk has a mortar that you can use in singleplayer. It's in E8. From that position you can target Forte Solaro and (with a little practice) Tobruk HQ, using your binoculars.
