There's a either a common lime (linden, or Tilia in Latin, not the tropical fruit) or a small-leaved lime (can't tell them apart) growing right next to my balcony (a whole row of them has been planted in front of the apartment block), I don't even have to reach in order to grab the nearest branch, the crane flies most likely come from there.
On the other hand, I get to watch a family of half-tame red squirrels that do all kinds of fun and cute stunts, they really like the limes and the cover the leaves offer in the summer. Also, people most probably either feed them or forget food on the balcony, because they patrol the balconies as well, and once I had to chase the little fella out, it was sitting on my sofa, looking intensely at my toy squirrel. The little chap (or lass, didn't check what type of connector it had) was well-behaved though, did not chew anything or poop inside and did not go for the kitchen, so I felt kinda sorry chasing him away. Maybe I should start leaving a few (non-salted) nuts for them every once in a while (not so often that they would become dependent on feeding).
