Ok... what ablout BF109s then?

BF109's were around for the entire Normandy campaign, but there were not many, and the entire Luftwaffe was very rarely seen in the skies.  IIRC there were only a couple hundred planes in the whole of France when the campaign began, and not many replacements in the offing.

Were there more FW-190s than Bf-109s during 1944 Normandy?

TBH, I don't know, but Fw190's never supplanted Me109's, they operated in conjunction.

20 000 FW 190's built. 33 000 ME 109's built.

But the FW 190 got introduced in 1941, BF 109 in 1937. One could think that the numbers especially after the Battle of Britain (about 800 BF 109s destroyed) and the battles all around Europe, shifted more and more towards the FW 190 as the war progressed. A number of BF 109s got lost because of the landing gear issues (wheels mounted under the middle of the plane instead of the wings). I once read that the BF 109 was considered outdated by late ´42 anyway. So the number of those two planes available at the same time should be roughly equal later in the war - at least not as different as the two numbers (20000 and 33000) would let you think.

Well the Me109 was a nice plane but lacked armour, operational range and ye, the landing gear issue.

1/3 of all ME109 where involved in landing accidents of wich 10% where completly destroyed

Also alot of FW 190's where assigned to defend germany against bombers.

But a Me109... During testing they found out that a .50CAL bullet had no problem in going in the engine block and coming out at the other end. It was a nice plane, but like the spitfire, not so well armoured.

It remained in production because of the low cost of these aircraft methinks.

The one in the foreground should be the Fuso or its sistership Yamashiro.

Edit: Also possible that it's a ship from "Ise class". Looks similar. The screenshots cannon positions apply more to the Fuso class though, so I think that's one of the 2 from that class.
