BF1.5 + FH2.2 cause computer to restart EVERYTIME

Hi guys. I've been playing the new update for a few days now, everything working perfect.

Now this morning I installed the so called Alt-Tab fix from dice. Now everytime I start BF2 or FH2 (doesn't matter which) my computer just goes blank and restarts.

I have done two clean installs (with registry cleaner mind you) and the problem still persists. Any other applications and/ or games work perfectly.

Anyone who can shed some light on this? Thanks.

Hmm, my pc IS virus and spyware free, but amazingly it did wipe all my restore points before I could use any.

So back to square one.

What causes this crash?

I doubt that this could be caused by FH2. You tried any other games?

All drivers are the latests? check sound mainboard graphic even mouse drivers can cause problem. Im sorry with your Problem but i have no clue how to help you-

Try uninstalling FH and afterwards bf2 with revo uninstaller (it removes the program and then searches the register so you can also delete everything in there).
Then reïnstall.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Folkhoer, I already did a "clean install". Including a registry clean with C Cleaner. Before doing a complete by the book install of BF2, patch 1.41., 1.5 then FH2.2 en updating PB.

I am now going to try and update my Video Card drivers. Seems the most likely since all this began when I downloaded the DX9 file DiCE had created to solve the Alt-Tab problem.

It isn't so much an FH problem, just something BF2.exe reacts violently to. And thought maybe you knew what.

Well the video driver update didn't work.

in my experience the "black screen of death" is related to the GPU over heating. i've had it happen to me before and a couple people i've known. it seems to happen with perfectly good GPUs sometimes, and in those cases it seems it is a toss up weather or not a game gives the black screen and lock up(oppose to a fried GPU or messed up fan in which it seems to be a universal problem). i suppose it's related how demanding a game is. anyway, one of the first things i'd try is swapping out the GPU for another if you can, even if it's an older one, for testing purposes. even if it's not over heating it's a quick way to find out if the problem is the GPU it's self, or not.

Hey Zero, I don't have another GPU around, however I can try cleaning my whole PC.

Speedfan clocked my GPU at 45 C. On startup.

Even if the GPU is the problem it's really wierd. Because all this started after I copied the .dll file from the DiCE fix. And allthough it's long gone it seems to have created a more persistent problem.

I uninstalled everything last night for the 4th, but this time I just reinstalled BF2, no patches, no nothing. Same reaction.

Again, I'll keep you guys updated and thanks for the help so far!!!

PS: Oh the irony, I'm about to buy a new pc within one or two months and now my old one starts to fail

did you clean out your bf2/fh2 shaders ?

you might also want try to delete the battlefield 2 folder in "your documents" folder but be sure to make a backup as this folde rincludes your player profiles etc.
then try to start bf2 first, does it work ?

Clean out the shaders? after a fresh install? And does this entail removing the shader_client.zip or just the shader Cache? Because there is no shader cache yet as I have not started the game yet.

Yes it also does it to BF2.

shader cache is stored in the "my documents/battlefield2/mods" folder

and the fix for the alt+tab bug by dice clearly stated to do this !
you might need to reinstall directx 9 ? maybe that helps

di you check systemlogs for any error msg that might help ?

Be sure that ALL files are gone when you do a clean reinstall!
Some uninstallers don't kill all the files in a directory. So after uninstalling BF2 I would check that the folders are gone as well.

I did a SUPERCLEAN install, like said in the original post. All files gone, registry cleaned, etc.

As for clearing the shaders when applying the DiCE fix. Yes I did that, I followed the instructions to the letter.
